One-off eD spl sub

the sub looks sexy as hell...but Id be nervous sending any sort of really serious power through a flat cone...

the joint weakness has been shown many times...

hell, I like ed, but I wouldnt trust that sub with serious power on it.. hell, Ben even said itd make a nice "conversation piece" lol

the weak triple joint actually has very little to do with the cone being flat...

the flat cones were weak themselves. look at the first revision of the eduh flat cones, they came back with a metal plate behind the cone for rigidity, due to nearly all of the original cones being broken either during play or in shipping. the honeycomb nomex material was strong, but when applied to a flat piston type application it oculdnt stand up to the forces.

eduh is notorious for breaking themselves, lying to the public, stealing, hiding the truth (like their absurdly high failure rates), and also coming out with horrible ideas that they think are great (like making a woofer with a magnet so big it has to be inverse mounted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif )

only reason I mnentioned it specifically as a flat cone is I was under the impression it was the only version with the joint failure issues.. but Im far from an expert

The speaker does not need to be inverse mounted.

The motor structure is not that large.

As was mentioned, its a modified 4hp motor, which might be more valuable to some guys, if the auction cost doesnt skyrocket.

So is this a different woofer than the one Ben admittedly stated was a paperweight before? Or not?

I honestly do not know.

The 12Q was before my time with the company.

My guess is that if it was called a "paper weight" was due to the fact it would not have been cheap, 4" coil with high inductance, more SPL oriented, which is not the group we try and market to.

It was a one off product that was kept in the companies personal collection, until we had no need for it.

Its more of a conversation peice for collectors of rare speakers.

Flat cone 4hp.....you wont see another one of those floating around.

that would be never, and with the 13AV.2 coming out soon, you will seeing a lot more of ED. so everyone could stop saying "when are they going out of business" because its pretty stupid and childish.
