one of my alpine type s's quit working

I have checked the wiring and everything is fine. my other sub is workin just fine, i tried switchin the subs and the good one worked on either side. so the wiring is just fine. it was workin great for about a month, and i just noticed only one sub was running. I didnt hear any noises or anything, so i dont think its blown. i have heard blown subs before and they atleast still hit. but my sub is doing nothing. what do you guys think the problem is?

Digital multimeter and im not sure how to check the voice coil with it though so i will stay tuned.

on my dmm, you have to set it to the ohm mode, or that omega symbol. touch the prongs to the terminals to see what they read.

the same thing happend to one of the speakers in my car, the speaker wouldnt do anything. I found out that the voice coil was gone, so like everyone else said its the voice coil.

Blown subs do not make any sound at all, as they are incapable. The voice coil has been burnt.

I hate it when people refer to a messed up sub as "blown"

Just take a dmm and read the resistance through the VC. If its anything other than around -0.6 to -0.8ohms from your impedance (3.2ohms on a 4 ohm speaker, for example) than its bad.

after u push on the cone it works again? was the cone just stuck and you had to break it loose? I am still confused about how this voice coil got "burnt" there were no signs of anything going wrong on it, it just quit working. I bought this sub off of an ebay store, who doesnt have a warranty, is it possible to go back to alpine for a warranty? i would even be happy just to get it refurbished.

No what happened to one of the 2 r's i've owned is the cone got stuck from over heating i'm guessing, So low volumes it wouldnt work, but If i played it really high for a while it would get it moving, but it finally seized up all the way and can't push it anymore. It was pretty interesting to say the least.
