one Ed 12k DVC, which amp? USX600D or USX800D

Ok. I have search these forums, and read a ton of messages, and decided the class D USX amps will get me the most for my money....

And, even though I do not know what a "sub-sonic filter" is, I know the USX800D has one and the USX600D does not.

I just order (about 15 minutes ago) an Ed 12K.44 (just one, with DVC), and I need to decide which of these 2 amps I should get.

The 600D is rated for 375W RMS per channel @ 2 Ohms @ 12.9v input

The 800D is rated for 600W RMS per channel @ 2 Ohms @ 12.9v input

I am think I may want to get the bigger amp, in the hopes that it will power 2 of the Ed Ks if I decide to add one in the future. But, I do not want to damage the sub by getting the bigger amp.

Also, the 600D is barely giving the sub its recommended RMS.... will I be over-working the amp?

Thanks for any info....

600D, the 800D would be too much power.

u can only wire the sub to 2ohms or 8 ohms. n they'll push a bit more since they rated at 12.9V.

you could get another one and get the 800D to power both of them.

Originally posted by Jmac I'd go with the 800D ...

But turn the sub level down, if your head unit has that option ... if not, turn the volume down or the bass down ...

And leave the gain at minimum and don't use bass boost no matter the head unit situation ...

Actually ... you do realize that if you have two 4 ohm DVC subs that you'll be limited to a 1 or 4 ohm load, right ? Meaning that you might as well get a 2-channel amplifier or an amplifier that is stable to 1 ohm ...
Actually no, I did not realize that.... still trying to figure this out. So, if I understand this correctly, then if I get the USX800D, I will still have to upgrade the amp later if I add another Ed 12K?

Did you recommend the USX800D because the 600D would be overworked?

Thanks for the help!

Hes saying that getting the 800D for future purposes wouldnt really do anything to your advantage. The 800D is only 2ohm stable. Wiring your two dual 4ohm subs will either give you 1ohm or 4ohms. And the amp cant push neither of those, the 1ohm will go into protection, and the 4ohm will only push about 350watts to both of the subs. Go with the 600D...

Got it.... thanks for the clarification! The USX600D wins..... if I add a new sub, I'll buy a new amp....

*Thought the 12Ks were 400 RMS before ... looked at eD's site and they're actually 350, so that's why I'm now recommending a 700 RMS amplifier :p*
Yes, they are 350W.... that's why I was afraid the USX600D would be over-worked with 1 Ed K12..... the thing I liked about the USX amps is they had a class D rated at 12.9v.... I don't want to kill my Saturn's alternator....

Ok, back to the hunt....

Hey Belgarion, do you only have one sub as of now? If so does he really need the 700Watt amp (Jmac)? I recall he said if he decides to get another 12K then he would like to get a bigger amp. Wouldn't the 600D work, putting out 375 @ 2ohms for just one sub?

i think what he's sayin is why buy an amp now then get another one later as opposed to doing it right the first time. why not look into the jbl 600.1? seems like the kinda amp ur lookin for. what kinda box r these goin in/

A good 2 channel amplifier that produces 600-700 RMS @ 4 ohms and 300+ @ 8 ohms would probably be the best choice ...
And that is what I am finding out.... the Ed 12K seems to fall in the middle with a lot of amps. Maybe I should pay the extra $45 up front and get the Ed 12O series.... then I should be able to find and amp that is good for one, with the option of using it with two later.

If I am understanding this, that would allow me to get something that handles 500W RMS @ 4Ohms (for one sub), and 1000W RMS @ 1 Ohm... it seems that would open up my options on amps.... am I making sense?

Thanks for all the help everyone!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
