my amp doesn't turn on all the time. some times it turns on, sometimes you have to turn the head off then on then it comes on. also the amp goes into protect, when u turn it up.

check and make sure your head unit's turn-on circuit isn't shorting out. if it isn't shorting out and is just messing up, then just splice into the switched power for the radio.

the amp could be going into protect for more than one reason... how high is the gain? how many ohms are your subs wired to?

could be a bad ground, voltage drop, over heating.....is your electrical system decent? does your amp have enough airflow around it? do you have a good non painted metal surface as a ground? Also make sure you subs aren't wired below the amp's impedance level.

i have redid the ground twice. the electrical system is stock. but worked fine on a stock explorer system. has plenty of air flow, when i feel the amp it is barely warm. i am running one 12 dual 2, at 1 ohm. the amp is a 1400.1 autotek. ran fine when we used on friends explorer. does the same thing at 4 ohm. gain is half way and the bass boost is at 0. the car that it is in, is a 07 pontiac g 6.

If the amp does the same thing @ 4 ohms then i have no clue. Could be an amp problem but I'm not sure.....I guess you should check the voltage at the amp when the car is running and the bass is turned up.

test you voltage at the amp when the car is running with your volume on medium or high.

when the volume is high the voltage is 14. i noticed i can run the volume on high for 15 to 20 min, on high with the subwoofer output on -4 or -6. if i go above that it will turn off in 2 to 3 min.
