It begins in the late 70's, it ends in the mid to late 90's (depending on the company, like pre buyout Orion, or PPI).

Anything that is from an earlier era and looked upon with high regard or respect. Can be used to refer to music, clothing, language, or anything really.

Client: We have three PC's running MS-Dos 6.

That I agree with, but that term isnt as widely used.

I only said late 70's because of the Punch amps made by Jim Fosgate before Rockford bought them out were basically the same as the early 80's versions made by RF, and Alpine's emergence in that time.

I kinda give it that date because right around then is when as I can remember car audio moving out of relitive obscurity into the mainstream. Brands like MTX, Orion, Alpine,Hifonics,Sony ... were actually making large marketing decisions, dealerships and install bays were growing tremendoulsy, and "Sound offs" were starting to get some fairly large turnout. But this is to the best of my recollection.

I would consider anything from 1988-89, when CD players started to go mainstream until 1997-1999 when digital music and CD-R's started to catch on as Old School.

Back when adcom still made car stuff. Man I miss my 4404.

Ahh yes, old school...
