Old school rockford amp question

The key here is a "quality" amp produced these days. There is a LOT more junk produced today then back in the old school days. We just had to keep away from Pyramid, Pyle, Sparkomatic, Kraco, etc. back then. It is easier to list the quality providers today (short list) than the junk ones!! Or am I wrong?
Actually, Pyramid and Pyle had some diamonds in the rough back in the day! Some of the Pyramid Gold amplifiers produced in the late 80s to early 90s were pretty good at making rated power and sounding good doing it. Pyle Pro subwoofers weren't bad either back in the late 80s to early 90s. As usual, one has to know what they are looking for.

But you are correct about the short list of decent amplifiers produced today. I like: Arc Audio, Brax, Clarion, JL Audio, JBL, Lunar, Phass, Rockford Fosgate, Zapco, Zuki, and a few others. Of course it is no secret that Lunar is my favorite because they meet my needs, aren't mass marketed, and are made here in Louisiana. It also helps that they make more than rated power and don't suffer from noise issues as some of the old school amplifiers that I tried to run did. They are also the coolest people I met in the car audio industry in quite some time.

When it comes to old school amplifiers, I like the Orion GX, SX, and HCCA line right up to the Digital Reference series.

I should have prefaced my comments by "most" of the brands I was referring to. I had some Pyramid Gold Series subs (dual 8's, dual 10 passives) and they were downright impressive. My recollection of Pyramid amps was a high school trip to a local audio shop (yes, I had an elective in high school called "Home and Car Audio" - how sweet was that?). The guy at the shop showed us two different amplifiers, one was a Hifonics Thor (rated at 125w x 2 I think) and a Pyramid "1000w" amp. He opened both amps and showed us the circuit boards. You know what we saw with the Thor, but the Pyramid's heat sink was about 24" long and the actual circuit board was about 8" long and the rest of the space was just air. It would be SO cool to have that Pyramid amp now to show it to others!

The statement of old school offering more SQ than some modern produced high end piece only applies to those reliving their past and failing to move forward in life.
I take offense Chris //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
