Old Punch 45

I was wanting some info on an old Punch 45. It's the ones right before the HD's.

What will these do? What years were they made? I remember in HS, (89) these were the shizzle. I was amazed at what this small amp could do. I wanted one, but didn't have the change to get one then. I found this new one on eBay, so I got it.

Are they really able to go lower than 2 ohms? I know what RF says, but what will they do in the real world? I've heard some say .25 ohm but I'm not gonna subject this one to that. I might just keep it in the box to look at. I wanted one so bad back then and I'm glad I have this one now. I'll prolly just look at it and smile!

Thanks for your info.

Scott.

One nice thing about those amps is they have fuses inside. These fuses should blow before any damage is done to the amp. I have seen the little 45's on everything from front stage to a pair of tens or twelves. Good amps no doubt.

I still run 2 Punch 150's from 89 (just before the HD's).

Great SQ/SPL out of these powerhouses & still amazing today!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Started out with 1 45, 45 & 75, 75 & 150 and finally 2 150's (all 89 models)

LOVED them all!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

i know some of them had inside fuses and some didnt, the ones i dealt with back then with the fuses would only run 4 ohm mono, but the ones without the fuses would do 2ohms mono, but like everybody said they will get super hot at 2

The only models that did not have the 4 internal protection fuses was the last HD (Hybrid Design). They had a analog computer protection circuit that protected each channel individually from abnormal current conditions.

The models with the 4 internal protection fuses could go into 2 ohms also.

Personally, I would rather have the models with the internal fuses rather than relying on a computer protection circuit. Granted, it is more work to take the amp apart (with is VERY rare) to change the fuses, but IMO it is more solid protection.
