Old Orion HCCA 12D 1200RMS not enough?

Back again about this 12" sub.

I have been trying to mess around with this sub as i still got 2-3 weeks before my SSA Evil 15 D2 comes in, but i am having a issue trying to find the correct RMS for this sub.

Im running a highly overrated AMP (Planet Audio AC5000.1D) and of course i do not own a Oscilloscope so i can't tell if its honestly clipping. I have used a DMM and ran the amp from 800RMS to 1200RMS and still the subs still hit clear notes without issue.

Has anyone owned this sub? How much were you able really juice it??

In a week test of running the sub on 1600w rms the sub hits hard and does flex my truck to the point people turn around to stare.

The sub never cuts out or even bottoms out at all unless trying to hit anything over 50hz even at that it doesn't cut out.

Sub box is tuned to 33hz with a large port.

Should i push it more or will it just complete destroy the sub?

I will try to post a video on youtube soon as i can't seem to find any other video on the hcca 12d other then one being tested against another sub which it isnt even being pushed.

1600w is about all i'd want to give it. 1200w would be perfect, and that's what the sticker on the bottom of the magnet says, right? I have one with a cooked coil in my garage and I also had one previously about a decade ago that we put an Orion 1200d on and we ended up killing it when we strapped two 1200d's @ .5each to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif They are great subs with a great motor so enjoy the collectors piece and keep it together if you can.

Yeah i might end up selling it soon i bought it for 150 here on this forum, but thinking it was a spl sub i forgot to notice it was a 1999 sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif as good as the sub is its just not like how newer subs are being made specially the new orion 12s.

I might just allow it to continue trashing the inside of my truck. Lately i have been getting a nasty burn smell so i have to be careful as it may be the sub or the amp.

yeah two amps @ .5 (1 ohm strapped on the dual 2 in parallel). we just tried to push the limits of everything we had, and unfortunately 2800w or so cooked'ah. keep using it. it's a great sounding loud sub that has some authority. i'm sure you will enjoy the new sub you have as well, and now you at least have a baseline of what shakes your sh1+ apart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That smell is generally due to Clipping/..I still run my 14 yr old Audiobahn AW1008t subs in 4.0cubes @32htz,on my Mmatts 300.2D@approx 1500 rms.Ive always ran my subs at the RMS rating,or a bit less.I guess that's why Ive been able to enjoy them for so long.
