With the current China situation it got me thinking. Prior to.. 2001 or so, most car audio was still made in the USA, right? Did companies still outsource their manufacturing to someone and put their name on it? But, just to a US manufacturer? Like, who manufactured Subs for the likes of MTX, Pyle, Orion, ect? They did? Or, another manufacturer? Could USA manufacture come back?

I focus on car audio technical assistance and questions. If you have specific questions about car audio systems or products, feel free to ask!

I was just wondering if anyone old enough still around that knew about where things were made back in the day.
As for audio, all of my current speakers are MTX.

Since reading this post I have been trying to recall which brands had the Made in China stamp on them. IIRC only the cheapest equipment was stamped as such. Pyramid as cheap as it was, was made by Tenna Corp which was a US company. Orion was US made. As for outsourcing of parts, no clue.

My thought is most outsourced their manufacturing to a domestic manufacturer, who ever they were. Even RadioShack had made in the USA speakers. I’m 46 years old. I was a high school car audio magazine reader in the 90s , dreaming of what I could buy one day.
Manufacturing needs to come back to this country.
