old lanzar amp introduces noise in system

I just installed an older Lanzar amp (SL800D) to run my subs. I'm having some issues (as described in another thread) but wanted to touch on one particular one in this thread: alternator whine. Well....maybe its not alternator. Its a high pitched whine that doesnt change pitch. It started when I replaced my Profile msx 600 with this older Lanzar amp. Can it be removed? the only other thing I replaced was the power cables. THey needed spade ends so I soldered up a new set. Ground is at the same place and power is coming off same point on D-block that old power was.

Any suggestions? I may end up sending amp back if I cant figure this out.

Try using the old amp with the new connections. Just a straight up drag & drop swap. If the Profile causes the same noise, then it's your power connection. If not, it's the Lanzar amp. If the Lanzar is bad, just return it.

After listening to the Lanzar it just doesnt sound right. It seems to have some power...but dont think its too clean. Its bass response is deep..but it lacks any kind of clarity and punch. I hooked up BOTH of my JL Audio 10w6v2's to it to see how it sounds. Even with my Profile msx 600 this config about took my roof off. With the Lanzar....just boomy. No note definition.

I think all the above issues point to it going back. Too bad becuase it was supposed to be a good amp.

Sounds kind of like you have them out of alignment. Try swapping the polarity on one of the speakers. I know a lot of companies switch around the +/- terminals for speakers in any which way but loose. (Why I have no idea)

Apart from that, have you done any messing around with the Xover, bass boost, gain? If you match all them identical to your old amp, does it make a difference?

Oh, and for the price, Lanzar does make good amps. You might just have been sold a damaged one. =\

I tested the phase by the old "battery" method: take a 1.5 volt batter and hook up the positive of the battery to the positive of the speaker, negative to negative. WHen they are matched...the speaker will push out. Its really saved me a TON of time. I tested this with the input on the enclosure and both speakers pushed out together. I've got a phase knob on the amp and I did try turning it. Same result. I've tried raising the gain..lowering the gain... I have the bass boost turned off.

I think its the amp. I'm out of ideas.
