OK you pros. I need some advice.

Hello guys. I am considering getting a sub (to run off the stock deck - hi level?), for my new 2006 maxima. It already has a bose sound system that does an average job on the mids/highs. The lows are in need of some help. I am looking for about 70% SQ and 30% SPL. I listen to mostly rap.

Here is the catch: I bought a large car to have a large trunk. I do not want a HUGE box to take up that much room. I also ski, so I need to have access to the fold down seats.

Bottem line: If I put a sub in the corner (like closest to the rear of the car away from the seats and face it 90 degrees), would I get any kind of SQ? Or would you build a custom box, and use the 60/40 split in the rear seats (to cover just the 60).

Hope this makes sense. I have given myself a budget of roughly $800 USD. This can be adjusted if there is something out there that would be much better for the dollar.

Thanks in advance for your professional advice.

can't for that matter
You can if you want to, nothing stopping it. A lot of decks have a low pass filter, so you'd only be sending a driver the frequencies you want...you'll just be getting ~15-20 watts, which won't get many woofers moving. I guess for it to really work though, you'd have to have an in-line LP filter so that the other channels would still get the highs...meh...it's possible.

I'm assuming by the question that you're just concerned that you don't have an aftermarket deck with RCA's? I would assume the bose system would have RCA outputs, so check it out before you assume. At any rate though, all you need is a line driver to convert the high level outputs to low level outputs which most amps can use.

Then you're in the situation of which equipment to use. It sounds like you want a small box driver, which says to me you're looking for something that performs great sealed. There are a very wide spectrum of products that you can look at. For $800 you can pick up a hell of a driver, and a very large amp to power it...so do a bit of research around here and see what will fit your needs.

Sorry guys, no I would need advice for and amp/sub/box.

Stock deck as the car has a screen which tells me the song title, and audio controls on the steering wheel.

My bad. Thanks again for any advice.

plenty of units will tell you the song title and artist, as well as having steering wheel remotes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

btw rl-ps were designed for small enclosure applications. and doesn't take much power to get them moving and they have some hella sq and great output.
