ok to use 150 amp fuse for 60?

im switching amps and previously installed in the power wire is a 150 amp fuse ... im putting in a infinity 611a that is 30x2,

thats no problem is it? the wire fuse is just to protect against grounding out?

fuse on wire protects the wire not the amp. so leave it alone

exactly, the fuse on the power wire is just there to protect the wire incase it shorts out somewhere.

the amp should have it's own fuse on one of the ends. that fuse(s) protects the amp.

dumb question, if you have a 80 amp fuse up front, split to a fused distro, am i not using my amps to there full potential if one of my amps is fused @ 40 amps, and my other is @ 60 amps? (100 amp under full load)

should i switch to 100 amp or more @ the battery, or am i fine. i listen to music semi loud and occasionally crank it up for metal or w/e. if im not blowing that fuse i should be fine right? or am i limiting too much current?

got 4 ga all the way to the distro, split to 2 8 ga.

my sub amp has shut off before, i just turn it down some, and it works fine. is that the reason?

80amp is too small for 4 awg anyways. Should upgrade to a 130ish amp fuse.

The fuses on the amp have no bearing on what the amp actually draws during use. If the fuses are blowing there is a problem with the amp. The fuses are speced to prevent further internal dmage in the event of an overcurrent condition like an internal short. The only way you will be blowing fuses under real world use (music) is if you are clipping the crap out of the amp or there is a problem.

There is no reason to put the biggest fuse possible for the rating of the power wire. As long as the fuse is big enough that it doesn't blow under normal use then it is big enough. I only have a 150A fuse on my 1/0 power wire. Total amp fuses come out to 190A. I'm not having any problems.
