ok help me troubleshoot my system

i went over to a buddies and we got all the shit installed, amp's wired and everything so when i turn on the car the amp turns on fine, the hifonics thing glows up and protection is NOT lit up so i think thats totally fine

now the problem is its not outputting to the subwoofer, im just playing it freeair to see if it works but nothings happening, i have my DVC 4 ohm L7 wired as pos to pos, neg to neg, then a wire comming from one pos and one neg going to the pos and neg of the amp this is correct right? also my buddy said to use the "speaker wire" that came with the amp install kit which looks like some normal power cord wire (the kind with 2 wires connected to each other one is silver one is black) but the wire is so skinny im thinkin how can it handle the watts when i have to use 4 gauge just to power the amp ... also on the amp where do i hook up the rca's to the line in or out? i assumed the line in but another thing, on the amp for the rca's it says left or right, but on the alpine head unit it only has red + black (i think those are the colors) sooo im not sure which is which.... any help would be appreciated

hmm i cant find my multimeter, ill call some buddies but if im unable to find one , or while im looking, is there anything else i can do ? iv re-checked and re-checked the wiring+everything and it looks good... amp powers on fine... no protection, cd player plays fine, theres just nothing comming out of the subwoofer, i'll turn the gain nearly all the way up and nothing will happen...

put the car in your garage and use any other thing that has RCA outs (like a home reciever) to see if everything is fine from amp to sub.

make sure subwoofer is on in your alpine setup menu (that is, if that HU has sub preouts)

otherwise, make sure everything is connected fine.

good idea, yea i made sure "SUB-W" was on ... ill try a home reciever or something when i get back from class

What about the gains? Did you turn tour gain up?

Duhhh read

they were in input, and now something wierd happened

i noticed the pos + neg going from sub to amp was a little messed up on the subwoofer side, so i stripped them some more and stuck em back in and i think something happend, i turned on my car and this time the amp dident come on so im like wtf, pop the hood and sure nuff the fuse is bye bye ... hmmm... what could have caused this? now while i have to drive around and whatnot ill disconnect the pos + neg from subwoofer and just lay them in the trunk and just drive around do you think they might have touched and caused a blown fuse? i tried to keep them sepearted with a towel + clothes and whatnot but they still might have touched a little bit (bit i highly doubt it)

A short to the speaker leads should've blown the fuses in the amp; If the one under the hood is blown, and the amp doesn't power on anymore, then the power / ground to the amp shorted out.

Did you run the power leads yourself, or did someone else?

It's possible that the power lead was pinched or damaged, and shorted to the chassis.
