Ohms on my type r's

Okay, I have 2 DVC 12" alpine SWR-1221D Type R's which are rated 2ohms per voice coil, in my box that is being powered by a MTX8100d amp (which is only rated in a 2 ohm load and a 4 ohm load). The Subs are each wired parallel.

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldn't that be a 1ohm load on the amp? Could this be why my lights are dimming even when i have my music up just a little?

It seems that the amp is being a juice hog, even at a level that is not loud at all the lights on my dash board dim, and at extreamly high levels my lights dim more than ever and my CD skipps.

Thanks

Chris

no 2 DVC 2 ohm subs will give u either a .5, 2, or 8 ohm load. U shouldnt see that much dimming by just running 600 watts of power. I see dimming at high volumes but im runnin 1200+ watts and thats with a stock electrical system. Look to upgrade ur Alternator.

Where do you get 600 watts from ? We're talking like 1500+ @ 2 ohms, here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
my bad, i dont know how much the MTX puts out i just though he was runnin about that much power since each sub is 300rms. But **** thats an insane amount of power for type r's

well its 2 ohms per voice coil, 2 voice coils per driver with 2 drivers, shouldn't it be running at like .5 ohms or am i wrong about that? Im just trying to figure out if the subs are making the amp pull more juice than its supposed to and causing my electrical system to work harder than it needs to. I've broken 2 fuses already and its been a week.

something like this?

Mash Jetta TDI,

When you get the wiring setup as posted above so the amp sees a 2 ohm load tell us how they sound then.

Mostly I want to know how the 1221's handle the power from the 1501d, that's what I have and I'm looking at getting some type-r's myself.

xbwfo,

I rewired them today and they pound! I had them running parallel @ .5 homs and they bottomed out, but when i re-wired them @ 2 ohms they stayed smooth and clean. I had it at full power for about 6 minutes and the amp didn't blow the alpines, but the amp was on the warm side. Other than the diming of my head lights because i only have a 90amp alt. with a diesel engine, the amp stood its ground well. I also have the remote controller knob for the amp turned almost all the way up and the gain up all the way.
