im relatively new to this so be patient. i just bought 2 kenwood tornado subs. 700 w peak 4ohm.i have a jensen 720 watt amp thats gonna be pusging them ( i hope ).i was gonna wire them in parralell and that would make it a 8 ohm load right? or should i wire it in series for a 2 ohm load? i will prolly have them briged. or do i have to have them briged?

thanks alot

you have it backwards...series is 8 ohms and parallel is 2 ohms....are the subs dual voice coil or single voice coil and what are the specs of the amp....im not sure if a jensen amp is stable down to 2 ohms though....

I take it the Jensen amp is two channel. I would just wire each sub to it's own channel. because I don't believe the amp is stable at 2ohm mono. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2 channel

peak power per channel@ 2ohm 360 x 2

rms power per channel@ 2ohm 180 x 2

peak power per channel @4ohm 260x2

rms power per channel @ 4om 130x2

peak power briged @ 4ohm 720 x 1

rms power briged @4ohm 360 x 1

speaker output impedance 2-8 ohms

2ohm stable (stereo operration)

svc subs

what would be the best way to get the most out of my amp with those subs?

ok if i did the each channel thing with the subs.....would it already be at 2ohms or how do i get it there

and another thing would a ported box be better for my subs

i listen to mostly metal

its in a fullsize bronco

thanx

You can't get two 2ohm loads with 2 4ohm svc subs. But you can wire each to it's own channel at 4ohm which would give you 130w to each sub. I believe that's about the max your going to get. A ported box is going to be louder. But I can't really say if it's going to be better . I havn't dealt with any of the kenwod subs in a while. Maybe someone else could offer a better opinion on that subject //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Each sub is a 4ohm Single Voice Coil sub (SVC). The only way to get a 2ohm load. Is to wire the subs in parallel. Hence you will only have 1 2ohm load. The only way the amp will handle the load is in stereo. So you could only use one channel of the amp. So the subs would get roughly 90 watts each. You gain 40w a sub (130x 2 at 4ohm) by wiring each to it's own channel. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
