ohh silly sonic electronix..

I was at a shop when a kid walked in telling the guy his headlights would dim and his amp would shut off (go into protect mode) when he listened to anything with low bass notes. He told the guy he had a 125x2 and a 750x1 for the subs. The installer told him he needed two batteries for each amp. I asked if he listened with the car off, he said no, I asked him if he has an upgraded alternator, he said no. The shop was going to sell him $1300 worth of batteries (installed)... the kid told them he would be back. I had to jump the poor kids car off in the parking lot. I told him to get his alt/battery checked and to google "big 3".

Why did you join this forum when you help no one whatsoever
Why did you join a car audio forum when you have no car audio is a better question. Unlike you i don't try to answer questions that i don't have the answers to and i actually have car audio, sucka. I have never seen a 16 year old that stays on the internet so much, your pathetic. You have more groans than anyone on this forum, loser. Your a sperm drinker. In case it's not obvious i don't like you at all.

Capacitors do what they're supposed to do...Store a charge for when your amp draws more power than your alternator can supply...Capacitors are a totally viable option for a lot of people. A 500 watt amp may only make your lights dim (an easily noticeable voltage drop indicator) on one part of your favorite song...a $100 capacitor will fix it...Why would a newbie who doesn't care about 5,000 watt systems spring for a $500 alternator...And if you mention buying a battery before an alternator you are way worse than people pushing caps..

A big cap does what it's meant to do...Instead of making it's own power via a chemical reaction it get's charged by the alternator...It's a battery without as many parts lol...Some electric cars/hybrids run on capacitors not batteries..

Only anti-cap nuthuggers and followers discount what capacitors do because they (OP) are just that uninformed about capacitors..

I think this seals the deal. We've argued about this in several posts now where you pretty much say batteries are utterly useless if you don't have an H/O alt.

Why would you spend 100 dollars on a cap when you can pretty much get a battery that has 100x+ the effectiveness for that price range?

The fact is buying a 2nd battery is a way viable option before upping the alt, and most of the time much cheaper. I spent 120 bux on my deka battery (which stopped my voltage from dropping to below 12v by the way, now it stays above 14v). Should I have not "wasted my money" and spent 350-450+ on an H/O alt?

Sure when I get more money to upgrade to a 5k+ watt amp I plan on upping my alt, but in the 3000w range it's still not necessary to upgrade my 135amp alt, as I'm staying at 14v.

Favorite part is this:

Basically you argue against getting batteries then state that a capacitor is basically a battery. (Albeit a really ****** small battery)

A steady 3,000 watts on a tone can steadily pull upwards of 350 amperes, and on average about one third of that on *average* music not bass heavy rap of all things... So first of all you aren't seeing 3,000 watts with no voltage drop on a 135 amp alt and a $100 deka battery...at all. Second a capacitor can discharge it's whole load instantly, a battery can't in fact the car's power delivery system is slow.

You are just clueless, hopefully you'll learn.

How is a battery 100x more effective than a cap? A battery is meant to make large short discharges e.g. to start a car...A capacitor just dumps power on command.. Dude you need to actually know something before you say it you look seriously stupid.

I argue that for people pulling serious current an alternator upgrade will ALWAYS come before a second battery...You only draw on battery power as a last resort because batteries are not long term power supplies lol...Capacitors actually are, but they are for small..insignificant loads. The bottom line is capacitors aren't useless they have their place.

Reminds me of my older brother last night. Took him for a ride in my car and he noticed that my headlights were dimming, he suggested I buy a ONE FARAD CAPACITOR like he did. I started laughing and he didn't get why. (You have to understand how much he brags about his system, and how enthusiastically he said ONE FARAD CAPACITOR) apparently thats one of those things that if you have it, you definately have a sweet audio system.
