the vlx is a very clean amp yes it does pull tons of juice but what amp over 2000 watts at 1 ohm dosent it takes current to make it and if i had all these amps in my house my wife would leave me lmfao
Just because it can do 2k doesn't mean you have to run it that hard. I'd use mine in an SQ install.

.....The VLX is the best, cleanest amp US Amps ever built. Hands down.
Joe will tell you the same thing.
The VLX is identical in quality both sonically and build to a VL-400... to a USA-400... to a USA-400X. The only thing that changes is the power output and the ability to run lower impedances.

The VLX uses basically two USA-400 boards but there are differences between the two. Nothing drastic really but I doubt a VLX and a USA-400 would be sonically and they are not completely the same as far as the build. If you don't believe me look at the pics on amp guts and you'll see the most obvious difference which is the fact that the VLX is missing a row of caps on the first board. There are other differences but its not worth arguing about. I would love to own a VL-400 myself, because they are half the size and much more practical.

thanks guys.......sorry it took me so long....i had to dig them out of the boxes and unwrap each one, then take pics and load them into photobucket. and my computer is very slow........these amps are going to be with me until i cant walk anymore....lol..

how about a bbe processor? have you heard one of these before?

I dont see how the distortion specs will differ. Im not arguing I just dont see how or why the sound quality would differ between the amps. The missing caps would affect the POWER if anything, not the quality of sound. ALL US AMPS of that era were built AMAZING. The parts inside are of the highest quality. I dont see any difference between any of the lines. I would love for you to put the VLX head to head with a VL 400 and a USA-400. The only difference on the VL is that you get to adjust the sound slightly. Sonically it should be the same.

EDIT:

Actually after thinking about it, I would expect the distortion specs to double on the VLX since there is double the circuitry.
