Looks to me like he'd have trouble closing the rear hatch.

That is correct. When I saw that, I was pretty amazed they actually squeezed it in there lol.

Loss of SPL due to enclosure being so close to the liftgate....not a good idea. The designer/builder should have recognized that.

Some vehicles work well with port crowded to the rear hatch like that... I've had no luck with that in the Jeep. As pictured though it looks like the hatch will not close.

I simply can't imagine a sub enclosure sounding good with the port(s) being blocked/crowded like so.

Think I might **** with the guy a little bit tho....ask him does the hatch even close? See what Kinda response I get....
