Odometer doesn't go past 99,999?

So I'm checking out this listing here for a 1990 Ford Mustang - fast mustang trade

Called the owner up and he claims it has 70k miles, and he said something about "I don't think the odometers on these go past 5 digits". Kind of sounded sketchy, and I believe that is not true. From my understanding, this car should have an odometer that goes up to 1 million miles, right?

Most cars that "new" should have a 6 digit odo.

My datsun only has 5, its been rolled over twice, reads 30k when really it is 230k

smog places can usually tell you by running the computer.

I doubt it only got 70 on it i gotta 06 elantra i bought with 5 mi on it and i got 81 on mine

this 1988 has 5 digits....I cant remember if the 1990s had an updated odometer

I'm averaging 15k a year on my vehicle, so I'd test it. Find out if it was hardly driven, or if it's actually at 170k+. Keep in mind the car is 21 years old. 3.5k per year would seem possible, but significantly low.

so? its a mustang, he may not drive it as a daily driver, and also depends on where he lives and has to go. it is not probable but it is possible, my friend has a 91 integra that was a daily driver for 3 different ppl and only has 90k
