o/1 gauge wire

there is no difference, if you had searched we answered this like a week ago.

0/1 refers to 1 x 0 guage wire...its used more commonly in houses and such, oyou see 12/3, wich is 3 12 guage wires are insolated individualy and together.

If that were true, then 4/0 would be a bundle of 0awg wire, and it is not.

8awg, 4awg, 2awg, 0awg, 00awg, 1/0awg, 2/0awg, 4/0awg, etc

All of which I have at work, except for 00, but I've seen it.

what the hell are you talking about, just as Gautlet said, there is no difference bwteen 0 and 1/0 both have diamters of .3249"......explain what you ment by that post?

Diameter depends on strandcount. There's no fixed diameter. I have 3 kinds of 1/0 in my garage, and all are different diameters.

I didn't think the post was all that confusing.

In many cases "x/y" when dealing with wires refers to the awg(x) of (y) # of conductors. 16/2 would be 2 16ga wires, commonly used for speaker wire.

With large guage wire however, when you see x/y the x simply refers to the # of zeros.

1/0 = 0ga

2/0 = 00

3/0 = 000

and on and on and on - I've seen up to 8/0

And yes Mark, each guage does have a given diameter. The different wire sizes you see is either due to allowable tolerances, the fact that car audio is not regulated, or possibly just an optical illusion b/c a thicker insulation will make one wire appear smaller when compared to the same size of wire with smaller insulation.

Here is a very informative chart.

thanks for the clarification, but even with that definition, 0 is the same as 1/0....both a "one zero" right.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

dam|\|, I gotta dig that up?? ugh... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

All I found was 4/0 - it's .522"

I actually found a site that will calculate the dia. of any gauge wire, but appearently 4/0 is as big as you can find without having something made specifically for you.
