Number of Subs

What would be the difference between these 2 setups:

a.) running one FI-Q 12" @1000w

b.) running two FI-Q 12" @ 500w each

Would "a" be louder than "b"? or vise versa? would they be the same?

I'm not necessarily doing either of these setups. I'm just trying to grasp the thought process behind choosing how many subs to run.

in a daily more cone area and splitting the power up over many motors/coils is the best way to do it.

for SPL its usually the opposite since there are usually restrictions on how many subs are allowed in each class

To get optimal performance out of any sub (or subs) you're going to want to send them wattage that falls into the upper portions of their rated RMS range.

If you know what kind of power you'll have available and at what resistance then decide what size sub you think you want to run and how many.

Pick the best combination that works with the power you'll have to provide it.

this is purty much hands down b would be louder. its because excursion dosen't double iwhen wattage doubles, its kinda like decibles... it takes about 4X the power to get double the excursion so your 500w put together are going to mave more air than your 1000 on a single.. its like this...

lets say 500 got you to .5 inches excursion, to get to 1 inch you'd have to use about 2000 watts. so if you think of it that way if you are at .5 inches (random number of excurison with a single sub at 500, and you want to double the air discplaced, there are 2 ways to do it, either by adding another speaker with the same power, or by sending 2000+ to it

PS: NO chevyaudio this is NOT a challenge to your box building skills.
