Not getting full power

I've got a problem again, the amps a hifonics bxi1206d, the subs a dual 2 ohm type r, I got it hooked up and theres no way the subs getting 1200wrms, its more like 500. One thing I think it could be is the wiring inside the box, about 10" of 16g wire. is 16g enough to carry 1200 watts? from the box to the amp its 14g. The other thing I think It could be is the ground. I've got the ground hooked to bare sanded metal under the bolt that holds the seat to the floor. Is this good enough or should I drill a hole and hook the wire to the frame? It also has a turn on thump is that because of a poor ground? thanks for any help

well I upgraded the speaker wire to 8 gauge but it didn't help... how do I get a decent ground??? I searched and didn't find anything.

What does Hifonics rate their amps at? If it's 14.4..... you'll NEVER see 1200.

Whera are your gains? How did you set them? What awg wire are you running to the amp? Are they're settings on your HU you havnt messed with?

gains fine. how do i adjust the sw on the hu? yeah its at 14.4. yeah, I only expect about 1000w out of it but its seriously only as loud as my old 380w amp. It just starts to distort before its putting out anywhere near the rated output power.

I set the gain by ear, its 3/4 of the way up. 4awg pwr and grd. I havn't messed with any settings on the hu. Its wired at 1 ohm. also even after playing for 20 minutes or so the amp is still cold.. somethings not right.

I think by the way you sound your problem lies within your install.

alright I fixed the amp and the hu. yep it was my ghetto install skills. but i have seen much worse and now i've learned from my mistakes:graduate: First I replaced all my speaker wire with 8 gauge. then i cut a piece out of the carpet and used a wire bit on my drill the sand the paint off. Then bolted the ground wire right to the floor of my pickup. now its hitting like its supposed to! Oh yeah, this amp definatly pushes the type r HARD.
