I cannot help with your sub problem. Could be a few things. I am not familiar with the R but my first thought is lead slap.
Telling us how far you have the gain twisted really means nothing and is irrelevant. Research setting gains using a -3db test tone and a dmm.

To get louder you could simply make the proper vented enclosure for that R if/after you diagnose and repair.

Or I would move up to a 15 in a properly built enclosure over two 12s in a prefab.

If you do get those kicker comps, be careful trying to run them past spec. They are the budget line so I would not expect them to go too far beyond stated. That goes for most if not all brands entry level budget offerings.

I would say yes you would blow them. However, I can't concretely say which would be louder, because vehicles are different, I have no idea on alignments of your hypothetical situation. I think the 2 comps in theory would be louder but it would be negligible and not as reliable. I do think it is an exercise in futility getting those comps.

Update on my situation

12' alpine had a blown voice coil

got the hook up at best buy,they JUST got the kicker stuff in. the kicker box just replaced the 2 12' alpines type-r's they had...one was bad the other was good. they told me "give us your broken sub and we will give you the good one"....So i got a new alpine put in my car

I have an MRP-m500 amp...Bass boost=0,Gain=75%,LP=80hz

Are those settings adaquate?...It's in a sealed box (a MISSION to find a ported or vented box for a single 12. No luck yet)

Also the car is a 1999 ford explorer and the deck is a Jvc HDR50.
