Could have been a little to big for the sub with that kind of power...
x2 i would have gone about 5ish for that 18. they dont need much air. and the 4hp can take well over 3600 watts and proved with my 40.1 on the 5400...
thats very possible. i would imagine with something like 4kW or 5kW itd be too big but for haveing just over half of the sub's RMS worth of power i woudlnt expect this. especially when it played fine every day for 2 months. sometimes u can hear when a sub is stressed from a box too big........this one seemed fine....
o ya these box's are exeptional with small boxes....snoop did wonder wiht his in 4 cubs for SPL. the box was an older one i ad laying around and i used as the daily until a better box could be built. it just happened to sound amazing in this box....it very possible its just a hair too big. but i'll wait and see what thilo says.
Well lets just say that the enclosure is to big for the sub... After 2 months of seeing 2500rms and being pushed to its limits. That will put stress on the spiders and the tinsel leads. Eventually they will tear or snap due to the amount of force that is being applied. They will loose strength just due to the fact that they are being pushed to hard...It would not have happened over night, but more of a gradual situation. (this was just a scenario). What i feel it comes down to is, your box was to big for the sub with to much power or TC used some shitty tinsel leads.
i think its a little of both....make sense that itd take about this much time or something like that to happen with that senario.....but then again even with the right box size snoopdan's had trouble with his 4hp (mechanically speaking). He comes across mechanical failre with his, then again he has much more power to abuse it with. Even so, there's gotta be something not kosher wiht these tensil leads being woven ona high power high excursion sub. i think it's a combination of both cases....
Talk to TC and see what they say...Either way, IMO i still feel it was the enclosure was to large with that kind of power
