Noob help: Just got a new head unit, and everything sounds worse

There are plenty about EQs but there are many more just bad post telling people to turn the EQ all the way up. I already said what the EQs purpose is. It is to CUT peaks and smooth out the curve. You can also use the EQ to move around the image if you understand how to.

Dayum. So its obviously about personal pref here, lol. Currently, here is what I have found to sound the best, but I still need some help:

HPF: 100hz

bass boost: off

EQ: powerful (flat makes it like 2x quieter and 2x less bass, but is subject to change)

Loudness: Low (again, off makes it so much quieter)

SLA: +1

Sub W.: 80 hz +5 -12

They're sounding a little better now with those settings, but it's like theres a TON of kick, but not much bass.

Amp settings are:

Gain: 2

LPF: 100 hz

Bass boost: 0.5

Adjusting the gain helps with the bass alot, but I've always heard to keep gain below 2. Any suggestions? preciate all the help so far.

Also - could someone help explain the hz **** to me like im five years old? Is lower hz better for lower notes or what?

The gain setting is not as easy as just keep below 2 unfortunately. They have people on here that can explain it but to be honest as a beginner you're never going to be able to set that gain yourself. Gain makes a huge difference on whether your audio sounds good or not. The LPF might be better at 80 but your settings are pretty close to mine. I have my HPF set to off though someone might have a better setting for that..

Gain is not a number. It's there to match your head units preout voltage. If you do it right and it's not enough then you need to change either the box or add power or cone area. It sounds to me like if you set it right it's not enough but when you add in distortion from the loudness or to much gain it's good. That's what causes speakers to burn up. I'll look up your head unit and give you a rough, safe idea where it should be.
