How do you know my electrical background? edit: oh and to achieve 240v you need two hots and a neutral (and ground).... so what were you planning on doing... rewiring all his outlets?

Have her call the cops and report that the guy scares the Hell out of her by his actions. I think by law if he's talking to invisible people he should be placed under a 5150 (48 hour observation).

I'd start with that.

I wouldn't work at all as an electrician/plumber/gas fitter unless I was union.

We own a heating and air business...I have to be an electrician, HVAC serviceman, plumber, gas fitter, sheet metal fabricator, acrobat, snake, and strongman lol

Wiring phases together...thats the best thing I've heard in a long time....what are the chances of that apt complex being 3 phase anyway? lol

this isn't the 30's anymore, people who think bad of unions are just misinformed and/or ignorant to how they function...

the apt complex might have three-phase high voltage circuits for the water pump motors/boilers, ect... but it depends on how the complex is designed...

Well seriously I would have to be a bit touched in the head to want to really damage the equipment.

Anyway, I don't want to make this into a union thread. The main purpose of the thread was of entertainment value. The situation is being handled through the police and her landlord. But, for her sake I wanted to bring some levity to the situation which was my main purpose for this thread. Do you guys really think that I would be seeking serious advice about a situation on the internet? Or do you really think I am going to take the time, effort, energy to rewire his outlet lines? Plus, if I was going to do something of the like would I have posted about it on the internet? Seriously come on.

first off listen very carefully i am an electrician and if you have a death wish then by all means go ahead and touch 2 phases of power together at the panel. This will send pieces of molten hot copper slightly hotter than the surface of the sun shooting everywhere and sticking to everything similar to napalm. Never I REPEAT NEVER touch two phases of power together. how you would send 220 to his outlets (I’m simply supplying you with correct information i do not condone this course of action) is to land a neutral wire under a breaker. What you have in a house is single phase power if you’re looking at the panel and counting breakers in a vertical manner starting from the top left and going to the bottom all of the even numbers are on one phase and all of the odd numbers are on a different phase. So not only do you need to know what circuits his plugs are on but you need to identify the neutral wires that are grouped with those circuits. So as an example if his plugs were on circuit 1 you would have to find the neutral that serves circuit 1 and hook that to an even number breaker to send 220 to his plug. you would also blow out every light bulb hooked to that circuit. so sending 220 to his equipment would require quite a bit on investigation. Also when his equipment starts to smoke and possibly catch fire you’ll need to make sure that the breaker trips otherwise there is a great possibility that the equipment will burst into flames from the excessive voltage and catch his home on fire. CONCLSION: it would be very difficult for you to first off get the wires hook up correctly to blow up his equipment and even if you did the risk for fire is very great. If you call the cops enough and complain enough they should arrest him. I’ve been to plenty of house parties where the cops came by and threatened to arrest people if we didn’t keep the noise down.

Im union as well. We go through a far more advance apprenticeship program than any non union worker. we are better trained and far more qualified for any task. I happen to be out of local 6 which is out of San Francisco which translates into we are the highest paid group of electricians in the world and we wouldn't be able to command out rate of pay if we didnt have the skills and the workmanship to back it up. So next time you think of bashing a union worker maybe do a little research before you display your level of ignorance on the subject.

I called it bridging only for the visual idea of people on here who would understand the term. I realize that by shorting the phases I would make a direct very low resistance connection that would cause a very hot and explosive metallic eruption. I'm not a novice and realize you can't have voltage potential without resistance. (resistance being the equipment on the plug) By connecting 120v at one side and -120v at the other side you would have a 240v difference of voltage across the resistance. You obviously with out a transformer and isolation units bridge two phases to make one higher voltage hot signal.

I appreciate the concern and thank you guys for warning me not to do it, as if I was in your shoes I would have heeded the same warning. But, I am not a novice to power, electricity, and circuits.

Also, if you please read the post above the one I am quoting you will see that I have no intention to cause anyone physical harm. I made this thread for entertainment value as a lot of the folks who post here are very radical and it is amusing to me.

I would avoid all contact. Keep calling the landlord and tell them if they don't do something about it soon you will consider the lease broken. Call the police when he violates the late night hours. Tell them he is yelling obcenites and threats at imaginary people.

In most urban areas there are rules about making too much noise at any time of day, especially with very powerfull systems.

Don't use your warehouse full of gear. I know, I've been very temped myself to roll some ServoDrive subs into my apt to deal with nieghbors, but you could get your gear confiscated and a big ticket or even arrested. Even if it's during daylight hours.

If your going to talk to anyone, talk to his other neighbors and see if you can get more people to complain at the same time. The management and the cops will take the complaints more serioiusly if they are comming from more people.
