noise ordinance question

For my county, the law is 50 feet. My buddy got a ticket in high school but he was in a residential area. I take back roads as much as possible and turn it down at stop lights, stores, etc but that's mainly so I won't get broken into.

Grow the f*ck up and have some respect for your fellow man. If someone is calling the cops on you you're being an arsehole, if you're trying to "beat down the block" with a cop in plain sight you're really asking for trouble.

You can play side-of-the-road lawyer and see how that goes for you, or actually take a day or three off from work and play (or hire a real) lawyer in a court of law, but is it really worth it?

I haven't got a noise ordinance ticket since high school... they're very easy to avoid with some common sense. The last time I got pulled over was on I93 on the way home from a show 5 or 6 years ago. I figured on the highway away from residential areas I wasn't bothering anybody... really the cop was sort of shocked, I don't think I fit the demographic he was expecting and I don't have warrants and my license registration and insurance are good. Had a trophy in the front seat, told him I was just coming back from a show and he was pretty cool. "Look, I can tell you are an enthusiast and yeah you're probably not bothering anybody out here but that was just too much".

Also, anybody else notice that it's always guys who aren't loud who are getting all the tickets and whinging about this sort of thing?

To add my thoughts to this (I know, no one cares)

Most cops are cool about it and won't ticket you, hence why I never have received one - but then again I lived in FL for most of the time where it was deemed constitutionally legal (counties can still ticket you, but you have to fight it in court i.e. $$$)

Road-side lawyer works if you know what you're talking about and record it, but you will likely still have to fight it in court. Even if you don't play road side lawyer and want to fight a citation or worse in court (you'll probably win) it will still cost you ridiculous amounts of money. It's unfortunate that you're tried this way, but this is the system we have in the US.

It's always the guys with 1 or 2 $50-$100 subs in a prefab box on a boss 4k who talk ****, but then again they're the one's who always pull up with tweeters blasting (see: screeching) at red lights like their **** is loud. I'm probably not the only one to give them a quick burp to shut them up and prove a point and I'm not even "loud"

i guess ill just have to "grow the f*ck up" then... because, you know... driving down a street in a mainly commercial area, but in a spot where there was basically nothing, by the airport. which, you know, is basically silent. Oh, and there is an air force training area within a mile of there too, so there arent jet engines firing up ALL DAY in that area. So because you had all this specific knowledge about the overall noise pollution in the area(because you bothered to ask before being a d1ck) makes you the best person to decide that its wisest to tell someone to "grow the f*ck up" and have respect for my fellow man. Oh, just to make your remake even less pertinent, i was driving my very carefully plotted out lunch path which takes me out by nothing, more nothing, a car wash, more nothing, some railroad tracks, more nothing, a couple gas stations that are located by some industrial buildings that make enough noise on their own that they likely didnt hear sh1t from me. there is an apartment building at least 300 ft from the road on this path i take and another one that is so ghetto that there are literally disgustingly stained mattresses by the dumpsters every other day. So yeah, your response makes total sense.

and to add to your disillusionment of what i was doing when the cop was being a prick, i also have another lunch route i take that directly goes thru neighborhoods. I have the volume at no more than 9 for that route. never double digits. i park the car with it at 5 and it distorts at 35 (of 40). I guess i need to learn respect for my fellow man even tho i possess it. Your neighbors lawnmower is very much more of a nuisance than my car when i drive in an area where people might be sleeping or whatnot.

By "work" you mean you'll catch a beating then have to take off many days from work to spend in court, sure. Good luck to you. I've seen guys who have done it and IMO it's wiser to chose your battles and your battlefields.

You sound pretty triggered. So you're probably not bothering anybody but you do now realize that not making the effort to turn it down when you see a cop is sort of asking for trouble, right?

Your options are

1. Be a little smarter around cops who are bored

2. Follow the law

3. If you don't like the law start a petition to change/abolish it

4. If there is no law, take it to court.

I really try to keep it down if not off whenever going through a neighborhood. You can say lawnmowers are noisy or even motorcycles but im sure there are people on here that have extremely loud systems that will shake the inside of homes blocks away. I remember back when i had a really loud setup hitting to my grandparents my grandma would tell me how i would be shaking the pots and pans before even getting close to the neighborhood.

So what im trying to say is if you have just a little respect it will go along way having a loud stereo system Just turn it down in neighborhoods and when stopped at red lights because some people really dont want their car shaking while they are in it.

Triggered? I guess if that the nowadays term used for when someone tells you to grow the f*ck up for no good reason. Anyways, I was well aware that there was a pig in front of me and had the volume down accordingly. I also hate over aggressive cops and when I have moments where I have the time to argue with them when I am right, I will. I have done so on several occasions and have been thinking that I might want to get a camera or just start recording on my phone. This was the first instance where I was alone, so I'm sure that didn't help my case

Read my previous post. It negates the necessity of yours

I always turn it way down around housing areas

Yeah, can't imagine why your interactions with law enforcement don't go more positively?

and had the volume down accordingly.
Obviously not .

Keep on keeping on. That oppositional defiance disorder will take you far in life.

Its not like TV. Bodycams will help some but in my experience, being polite and not being a **** is the best way to interact with the law. Obeying the law doesn't hurt either

i honestly dont know why youre being so angry. Ive seen you be very rational in so many posts, but not this one. I am simply asking if anyone has any tip for dealing with the fuzz when the average joe is well within their rights of a specific ordinance regarding sound. To be frank, youre just being a d1ck. TBH, the level i was at was well within reason of the law and the cop was honestly just being a d1ck too. You and he should get together and go bowling...... Am i guilty of sitting in a parking lot on my lunches and blasting tunes? Yes. Have i carefully calculated how far away i should be to avoid being an actual pest? Yes. Am i outside of those parameters? Positively. Have i even taken into account how the density of the air affects how far the bass goes? Yep... I live in the state where harley davidson hails from, and by no means are the streets quiet here. Your local norm might differ, but around here 150 db from 20 ft away is not uncommon.

Talk some more sh1t and continue to have everything you say torn apart. Nothing you have said is valid. The MAX db the officer could have measured from my car was likely less than the ambient noise.

Im sure you havent seen my previous posts stating that i was a sound guy for many bands for several years and ran the board and numerous outdoor gigs. I had to check the db meter about 40 or so times a night for those shows, so im NOWHERE NEAR unfamiliar with what 56 db at 30 ft sounds like. Stop being a d-bag on this thread and go back to being the creatively cool guy youve been known to be....

tbh, if i have the time, and the cop is dead wrong, i have NO issue with calling them out. More people should. If a cop is being a pig, they should be taken to task about it. If more people adopted this attitude, we will end up as so many other countries have in the past. I mean seriously, have you not looked into what happens when the police is allowed to encroach on civil rights bit by bit? Pu$$ies letting cops be judge dredd have never resulted in a positive end. Check for yourself. Know the law, operate within it and fight when the "enforcers" overstep. Its basically your civic duty

Difference between getting a ticket for car audio and a civil rights issue or something more serious.. Or knowing your doing something boarder line and trying to prove something.
