Where did the op ever ask for lots of spl? Everything was fine until a certain member started comparing everything to 15s and pushing his personal listening tastes on everyone.

I'm sorry. I only stated MY preference, but I should bend that to OP's, even though it seems like he's not satisfied with output.

My suggestion to the OP is to buy a really, really small sub and power it with a really, really expensive amp that puts out next to no power, and the SQ Gods will smile on OP.

That is the proper way to set gains with a DMM for sub channels.

it should have said 4 skars on ap3k lol . i had a **** load of 8's and i dont care what 8 it is it will never sound the same as the same 15. yea its a great sub but it cant over come the cone area of the 15.maybe if the 15 is on 100 wats and the 8 is on like 600-1200 lol

yea the people that think 1 sa-8 can sound like sa-15 on the same power or even close to the same power are on crack

Get something newer, in a well made box with a little more power. You don't always need a 15 on tons of power to be satisfied. There are plenty of ways to go about assembling a budget friendly setup.

would anyone recommend the american bass XD 8? looks like it has a mounting depth that would work and maybe the characteristics I would be happy with and not as pricey as a SA-8

What kind of vehicle will this go into? What are your listening preferences (be as specific as you can) What is your overall budget?

i dont really have a set budget, but im not looking to spend over 100$ for a sub. My listening is a little bit of everything. I just want to be able to listen loud and clean, and not worried about rattling the world...just want to be able to feel the bass in my body. This is going in a dual cab truck behind the rear seat. so mounting depth is an issue.

From what I see here, a nice single 8 In a good box with decent power should be fine. My reasoning behind this is temporarily before I had my setup with 3 sa8s, I ran 2 of them on about 400 rms each and that was enough to flex my headliner, sunroof, hatch etc. So one 8 should be fine just to add a little bump IMO. And u can't fit a 15 obviously so I'm not sure why that's even being mentioned.
