No sound from Head unit please help me troubleshoot

I have a kenwood kdc x817 excelon head unit for a few yrs. its quite top of the line and stuff.

Today the sound randomly stoped working,

i wasout shopping, turned car off for like 10 minutes, came back and radio went on, all lights, all displays, all work but no sound.

cd played, but no sound, same with am fm, cd changer , etc.

when i put the vol all way up i could hear static from speekers,

what do u think is the deal with this

i would check your speaker muffs or you head unit fluid reservoir

yeah could be the problem had that happened once.

Ive had this happen on my 817 before. Usually just detaching the face and reattaching it does ok for me. If not that, take the head unit out and pull the fuse and pu t it back in. This has also worked for me. post results.

sorry for my ignorance, what are speaker muffs?

ill try the other too solutions too

actually, my faceplate doesnt rotate any more, i can hear the motor work but i guess becayse the backing of the portion that flips is seperated it gets caught up and wontflip around'

Well taking the face on and off is basically just turning your key on and off. Did you trry hitting the reset button?

The speaker muffs and head unit reservoir fluid or whatever, they were joking.

also, is there advice oh how to tune a system,

my car is a 85 mercs 500sel

speakser i have are 2 eclipse 2 way 4 inch in dash, 2 6 by 9 eclipse 3 ways in rear deck and a 12 w3v3 4 ohm jl audio, i used to have a 12 w0 until recently

the box is a sealed box,

my amps are a eclipse 5423 4 chanel and a ppi pc275 which i believe is birdged to 300 by 1 to my woofer

Nice. What exactly do you mean by tune? The sound? Just tune it to what sounds the best to you. But I think you may be talking about something else.

i guess what i mean is what is the proper newbie way to set all the settings on my amps,

i dont really know too much abt those aspects of it, like gain, and hp.lp etc

by the way, i started the car this AM and the sound came back, whcih is a relief because i really dont want to purhcase a new HD any time soon

My kenwood does that occasionally, the turning off and on usually fixes it.

As for setting the gain, there is a tutorial in the amplifier section.

The crossovers HP LP, thats up to you, people have different opinions on that. Best thing is to set them at what sounds best for you, there are guidelines around this forum though, search around.
