No remote Wire?!?!

I recently installed a Capacitor for a friend of mines who had his amplifier installed professionally. I was looking at their installation and I must say it was quite impressive (Very clean and neat) However his car is brand new and at the time of installation didn't have a new head unit. Which meant a line output converter was needed for the install, but they installed the LO converter in the trunk where the 6x9 where wired up?!? also there wasn't a 12v remote lead runing into his amp anywhere?!!? So I had some questions reguarding his installation.

1. How does the amp turn on w/o a 12v remote lead?

2. I always though the LO converter was installed behind the stock HU.

3. [he has a new pioneer deck now] im pretty sure running RCA's from the new HU will have better SQ or should I just keep the LO converter in for the RCAs.

-Any switched 12 v source can be used as a remote turn on.

-An LOC can be connected anywhere on the speaker output, it just needs the signal from the speaker wire.

-RCA's will provide a much cleaner signal to the amp.

what kind of amp is it? Cause doenst some JBL amps have it where they can get the turn on signal through the speakers or something wierd like that? Im almost positive they can do something of the sort, because me and a friend installed a JBL 600.1 in a grand am an we didnt need a remote line.

The amp is a JL audio 500/1 and I'm thinking the RCA signal is turning on the amplifier. There is a grace period after the car is turned off and the driver hums for about 4-5 seconds after the ignition is turned off. I'll probably run his RCAs to his Headunit..... I just found it intresting that the remote wire wasn't nessesary.
