No one buy this amp!

Could be your deck! Could be a rca's no likely since its too different sets. Could be the fact that your running Hifonics speakers! Make sure the loud is off on your deck! How did you set your gains? Did you use the proper test tone and dmm?

I just set it by ear =/. But its only set like... in between quarter way and half way up so thats not why it sounds bad

Also does anyone know why the sound gets muffled at loud volumes after like a minute? I hear no ditortion/clipping before this happens.

That could very well be a setting issue with the hu..Just trial and error/playing with the hu to get the sound you want at certain volumes...too much mid,and bass settings can bottom out the speakers at the wrong settings/hz..Ill agree that that amp is great for entry level low volume sq,as clarion is known for from my experience..I would look into getting another decent 4ch amp of a min of 75x4 rms@4ohms,even an old school Alpine Duo-b 2ch for up front like a 3523/3525,4ch of like a 3555,some excellent sq,and loud amps, and budget wise, even a jbl gtq 400 is a great amp,gtq200,old school amps of course is generally what I seem to mention.New,SStreams Lil wonders seem to sound great for the Money to me.Alpine amp 3554 oldschool BumpS!! | eBay is one BA amplifier that will perform fantastic for your staging!!

What exactly is the hz settings on the HU? Like i can go into settings and change bass/tre/mid level and also bass/tre/mid hz. There is like a 100 hz and 2 other settings. They all sound the same to me tho?

Yea lol i just dont understand why clarion would make an amp that wouldnt make the speakers any louder than the HU did haha. uughhh car audio is a pain

It very well could be. Your speakers could just be underpowered. Set the gains properly and see what you get. Clarion makes good amps, so I doubt that is the issue. If it is the amp, you must have been unfortunate and purchased a defective amp!

Well this was easy to figure out! look at the speakers they have an external x-over and the OP said after a minute the sound gets muffled? Well the external x-over has a protection circuit in it that kicks the tweeters out at about 50w in about 2 minutes then they come back when it's turned down for a minute and the circuit cools, I had this same issue a while back with my mbquart comps they would do this so I simply replaced the ceramic disc(I forget the technical name for it) with a solid piece of wire and even with no protection I have yet to blow a set.

I bet thats it. I was thinking maybe he was running subs too and after a minute or 2 the voltage would drop enough to create clipping, but your solution seems more likely.

I would agree. my rainbows do the same thing to protect the tweeters. ive yet to put the jumper in to bypass it because on my old eclipse it never was an issue. for somereason with the 80prs its doing it more often now and i will probably bypass it
