Nine.1 went toast

Ok, well i was driving down the road with my sub fairly high, and all of a sudden the amp kicks off. So i go back there and notice that i blew the 4 fuses on the amplifier. I'm like why the hell did that happen. well the next day i go to get 4 replacement fuses for it and i put them all in, turn it on, and the amp stutters to turn on and fries all the new fuses and starts smoking and like a big puff of smoke comes out where the fuses are. So, i unhook everything and take the bottom off and notice that on the side there was a big fried spot. i know nothing about this so i'll post a pic of it and let you guys determine what went wrong. I'm still stumped to why the fuses blew, and to why when i put the new ones it it fried them right away too. gain was less than half, bass boost at 0 all that good stuff. I'll get a pic in a few seconds .

what were you running, and at what ohm load? also, did you set the gain with a dmm? just being at half doesn't mean that you are putting out about half the power...

I also noticed there was a sharp hissing sound coming somewhere in the back of my car, and my front speakers also were shutting on and off and i popped out the cd player and there was some wires touching. I don't know if that could have anything to do with the amp going out. But it fixed my extra sounds that i was hearing.

And i know it doesn't mean that, but i didnt have a DMM handy and i just did it by ear.

my nine.1 friend for no reason either, set by ear on like 1/3 gain. Everything hooked up fine, good ground etc (my nine.2 sharing same distribution block was fine)

Love the amps but they seem to fry easily lol

I think I remember reading a thread the other day that said they weren't stable at 1 ohm unless the charging system had been upgraded a fair bit, including the addition of a second battery. I can't find the thread right now.

they are stable at 1 0hm, i ran mine at 1 ohm for awhile before i got my iraggi

but they have a regulated power supply so voltage drop may hurt the amp...?

I'm thinking you still have warranty unless its 3+ years old. eD will take care of it. Just ask for an RMA from their site or call and they'll send you a replacement if they can't fix it in no time.

The same thing happend to me a year ago. The replacement has been working perfectly since.

I can't see anything form the picture....

Were the wires off the headunit melted and touching or just never taped or what?
Were taped, but when i tok it out the tape was off, so there was a possibily wires were touching. Could this have anything to do with the sub amp?
