hello sir, my name is nick. i have a 99 civic coupe that i have been pouring money into. this is my set up i have for car audio. im currently having problems with it and i will explain later.. anywho. this is what i have as far as audio is concerned.

-pioneer deck

-stock door spearkers all around

-kicker zx 1500 watt mono 1 channel amp with 0gauge power and ground

-two 12inch re audio srx 12 running 2ohm

-ported box

-big 3 upgrade

now. here is where i need help.

i bought my subs brand new. i powered them using my old jbl 1200 watt 2 channel mono block amp and it was making my subs burn, i could clearly smell it. my friend told me its because my amp is sending dirty power to my subs so i need a bigger amp. i bought this brand new kicker zx 1500 watt 1 channel amp and it recently started making the burning smell again.

now, the burning smell only happens when i have the bass on my deck turned all the way up along with the "loud" setting, bass knob all the way up and here were the settings on my kicker when they started burning

gain at 25%

cross over freq turned all the way down

bass boost turned all the way up 100%

volume was at around 45 to 50

so i re adjusted my settings on my amp.

gain is about 45%

bass boost is at 50%

turned up the cross over freq to about 25%

not sure if what im doing is right. im a noob at this. i dont know if i should buy new subs that can handle more power or a new amp. everything is wired correctly. with my new adjustments i made on my amp i havent smelt any burning. just faint. probably still some in my trunk from before. i am going to be buying a 4 farad capacitor tomaro.

need help guys! thanks

how much would a car sterio shop charge for a tune? and im going to buy a cap, i dont want to over work my alternator buy having it charge 2 batt. or do i just hook my amp power wire to a battery in the trunk then use that battery to power my amp?

If your burning them u r either cipping or overpowering the subs whaf kind of wattage r they rated for? Turn the bass boost to 0. Dont tune the lpf above 80 or sodepending on listening style and preference. Get a good dmm and dial in to your speakers rating or to the amps rms rating while playing a 50 hz test tone.

ok bro... do what you want with the cap, but its a mistake.

Would b wise to go with a battery. A ho alt would b next. The cap would only help clean up the power to the amp keeping the sound a little cleaner youll get a lot more out of installing the battery and your already workin the electrical with an amp that size

Were not saying dont buy a cap cuz they are a good investment...they are worthless
