You said DD can't play low did you not? They have VERY good bandwidth unlike others that only focus on >30hz

Never said they couldnt at all. they are not that efficient down low as others mentioned. Sure if i want to be "loud" id most likely go and run DD.

ughh. No man sometimes its more how a driver sounds. You cant tell me a DD 9915 will be as dominant down low as lets say a fi sp4. its not happening i dont care how you tune the box. That driver isnt designed for that

Or because I recommend sundown to ppl who want a budget woofer better then boss or Pyle subs, ya I recommend sundown E, or ppl who wanna hammer lowwws I recommend zv4. If that's nut hugging then that's interesting... Maybe I should go change my avatar to Sundown and change my sig to sundown too since u have all DD.

Lets see one of you DD builds since you support them so much. They arent the best company in the world thats for sure. better drivers out there also then what they have to offer

There's no perfect sub, there are many good ones on the market, each catering to different customer seeking different output. For instance, the last sub I had was an Incriminator Audio Flatlyne 18". Only 750wrms, but it's more efficient than this other driver with 2000wrms. That allows me to not have to run as much power to be loud. And that was also the cleanest, softest bass I've ever had. So many different and good subs out there, that were designed to cater to each different customer's needs.

There is so much more to subwoofers than excursion and power handling. That is not the only way they're evolving. Shallow subwoofers that actually make bass in tiny enclosures are evolving as well, and this applies to a much broader market segment. Who can have a huge enclosure when you have a family to haul around?

Yeah, its hard to get maximally loud when you are trying to keep the 2nd and 3rd row seats in a van, I rather go for efficient woofers that do not require alot of space. I'd be gettin the fu audio 18s for 200 dollars shipped right now but enclosure specs is whats holding me back, i'm trying to get in contact with their customer support. Reason why i liked the DSS ethos and stereo integrity is their small enclosure requirements and great performance to price ratio.

I always find the 'this sub is better than that sub' argument a bit funny...I mean the 'best' sub is the sub that fits your application 'best'.

Also I'm not sure why there is such a rush to find the next unknown or obscure brand that has somehow unlocked the veiled secrets of the perfect subwoofer design while all these other foolish well establish mutli-million-dollar R&D depart having 'mainstream' companies are apparently blind to.

Rather one should take the time to do some research and figure out what you're buying in a subwoofer and why. As already stated in this thread a good subwoofer is defined by more that it's cone area and excursion. To give a couple examples of 'mainstream produced goodness: JL W6's and W7's both excellent performing woofer by any measure. Alpine Type S series underhung long-throw performance at a tiny pricetag, want more underhung goodness by Alpine? The T(thin) models are both underhung as is the newest Type X (sort-of). Don't know what 'underhung' means as it's applied to a subwoofer? As opposed to 'overhung' or maybe 'splitcoil' or 'XBL2' or 'LMS'...then refer back to where I mentioned: learn what it is you're buying in a subwoofer and why.

All that being said my subwoofer of choice for best sounding/overall performance goes to the Audiomobile MASS series.

I've posted plenty of builds on here and vids dig it up ... I've Also ran many many companies and dd did the best ... So it is what it is .. There is no worlds best company so grow up and quit making completely false statements and maybe you won't get called out

I would have to agree with the best woofer being the one that suits your particular needs. I have been doing this for the better part of 25years, I just got, for me, the best subs I have ever had; tc sounds tc2000 12s. I have have dd, a set of redline 608's, dc lvl 4 m2 12, rf t2 12, just had a set of the last re se 10d4s with the 12 spoke basket. All of these did, for the most part, what I wanted them too. I always enjoy these types of threads, though.

Ive never been called out. i just dont make a company sound like its better than everyone elses thats all. It might fit your needs for your application but can be totally different for others.. They make awesome drivers and lets leave it at that.

About the part that FU is efficient..

Perhaps it is but the Ethos should have never been in the test.

The Ethos is in a totally different power class than the FU.

You give the Ethos 2-3k of power.. then we will see how much louder it gets over any of those drivers tested.

On the Klippel if i remember correctly, the Ethos is rated for 1800w mechanical to xmax, 2500w thermal and 6300w for brief runs.

And someone earlier in this thread mentioned sundown and 6" of excursion..

What about DSS' Magnetar?

That is suppose to have enormous xmax, something like 55-65mm xmax one way, let alone what the xmech is.

I seen that but it goes both ways. I don't get into that stuff. Skar is sketchy also but the gear is good, that what matters. Chevy is sketchy also
