hey guys, i just got a new stereo installed, 4 new alpine 6.5's, new alpine deck, 2 10 inch type r subs, alpine v-power 1000 watt amp with a power cell/ built in capacitor.... heres the problem.... i listen to my stereo for about 30 minutes straight pounding, and what will happen is the subs will just stop working, the speakers continue working but the subs quit, then i will turn my system down and they will come back on in about 5 mins, then if i turn it up it will cut out again in 20 seconds...... then keep cutting out and coming back on like that.... this only happens after say 30 mins of continuous listening... this is the second time this has happened... anybody have a clue whats going on here? im new to this stuff and i dunno whats up :S

what size wire do u have.SOunds like ur amp is goin into protect, have u seen it do this.

COuld be to low of voltage or to low of ohms, how do u have the subs wired
uhhh i believe the subs are 2 ohm im not sure exactly how its wired and what exactly is protect?

could just be overheating and amp is shutting down to protect itself.. hence why it will keep doing it once it gets hot and you keep the volume up.. let it cool down for a little while before you start blasting it again

the funny thing is, im an electrical apprentice, but this low voltage car wiring is a lot different then house wiring/ commercial wiring i didnt know the amp did that it must have some sort of thermostat inside of it no? either way thats kind of lame afte ronly 30 mins of steady pounding it shuts itself off :S

ok ill try to explain it the quick way...

you said you're an electrical app so it shouldnt be hard to grasp... the power running to your speakers is AC... if the amp is asked to make more power than it can produce.. it produces a DC single (which can be damaging to equipment) and just stresses the amp in general...

search the forums/inet and read up... its too much for me to type right now lol..

alrighty, but keep in mind i also have a power cell/ capacitor hooked up to my amp.... the amp cutting out like this, is this damaging to my amp? or any other eqipment

Definitely sounds like your amp, and you definitely need to take it back. Fairly expensive equiptment from a shop, and if your shit isnt working they need to fix it.

Those new Alpine amps are nice amps, unless you got a dud there is no reason in hell it should just shut off.

As stated, it sounds to me like you're dropping the voltage too low or are running it at too low of a load.

My guess would be voltage. What vehicle?

hmmmm well i have a toyota corolla (hahahaha) well he said my alternator was a little weak so he hooked up a power cell/ capacitor he said would save my alternator when you say to low of voltage... do you mean a setting on the amp? cause they told me they turned the amp down cause it was really big for the subs
