Hey guys,
Bought a little work truck, a 1995 Toyota T100. Great truck so far.
It is a single cab, and behind the seats I found quite a bit of hardware.
I have very little experience with this kind of advanced sound system.
So did the kid at Best Buy, his jaw dropped when he saw it, must be a lot more than he usually sees.
I have a terribly small upload limit (like 1.8MB, not even enough for one picture) so i'm using external hosts. I'd rather not have my full name out there so do please let me know if it shows personal info.
So here is the full sub system
So I know very little about sound systems, probably just enough to get myself into trouble.
Can anyone help me identify these parts? And maybe a brief description of what they do?
It is similar to my DIY home audio set up, but also extremely different. I'm going to post close ups of each part at the end of the post.
The doors have what look like 5 1/4", maybe 4"? Kicker brand speakers, but they sound terrible. (one of them actually has the kicker logo detached and bouncing around in there.)
If you set the EQ to flat and turn up the volume the in door speakers and tweeters pop and crackle like mad. Setting the EQ to something like "Vocals" allows you to at least listen to music, although the sound is pretty crap. There is also like a 2" tweeter in one of the doors, the other is missing. Door speakers certainly need an overhaul, this truck was parked for most of its life, hoping these just failed due to dry heat and lack of use.
But are the door speakers connected to the big amp in the back? No right? That would be a mono amp, not a 4 way, correct? That means that the deck is whats powering the in door speakers, right? But the deck shouldn't be enough to cause the speakers to pop and crackle should it?
so here is one of two subs, just looks like a 6" kicker right? Nothing too crazy.
So I think these are attached to the subs, not 100% sure what they do. Impedance adjustment would increase the resistance of the speakers... but why?
Then the impedance things (someone give me a technical name please
) connect to the Amp, i think... but the amp has zero adjustment options on it from what I can tell which I find odd for some reason. Do i have to take it off to get a model number? Any of you guys recognize it? I wonder if it is a mono amp powering just the subs or if it is doing something for the door speakers too.
Then at the Amp i guess it goes two ways.
It connects to the deck to get the audio signal.
And then it connects to this capacitor, which, stores energy... i'm guessing so it doesn't put crazy load on my battery? Not really sure what this is for. Can't imagine why I would need 3 heavy duty fuzes like that, its all 12volt no?
I should have taken pictures of the deck and doors but I didn't. I'll get some pictures of those too.
It is extremely loud, and i can seriously make it bump, but i'd also like it to sound good, and understand what it does.
