New to Subs.

OK guys a have a few questions. I am looking to put subs in my cobalt. I went to my local audio store and they want to sell me 2 12" Powerbass subs in a dual ported box and a Powerbase amp for 300. I am not sure on the specs I was just wondering how the brand was. But I was looking at FI audio and they seem pretty good. I was thinking about getting one SSD12 or SSD15. I was wondering how this brand is, or if I will see a difference in sound between 12" and 15"? I also am not sure what amp to get with either of these, I was hoping you guys could help me out. I will be also getting another one of the same sub when I get some more cash.

FI audio

* Power Handling Capacity (Peak) : 600W

* Power Handling Capacity (RMS) : 300W

* Nominal Impedancel : Single 4 ohm

* Voice Coil Size : 2"

* Frequency Response : 33Hz - 450Hz

* Sensitivity : 91 dB/W/M

* Motor Structure : 124 oz

* Mounting Depth : 5.5"

I believe this is the specs for the Powerbass subs.

I don't have PowerBass equipment yet, but from all the reviews I've read, it's solid equipment. Especially the 2XL, 3XL, or PBX subs, and ASA series amps. I can't speak for the lower end subs, though.

Tons of guys on here run FI Audio, but it's generally the BTL, BL, and Q's. They're bullet proof and shiny //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif. Talk with them before you purchase, to get the full scoop.

You'll need gobs of power for the FI's though. Everything in their high-end can do rated power and then some.

What is ID? Also I got some bad raddleing coming from my trunk. What are some fixes to this problem. I wasn't sure if there was a process I could go through. I know I am being vague, I was just wondering if there were any products I could buy for vibration.

You need some sound deadening. I used raamat, but there's plent of others. I'm on my phone, so no copy pasting google links, search for sound deadener show down. Interesting read.

Also take apart your trunk (do cobalt's have a trunk or a hatch?) and look for anything loose. If you have a trunk, take the carpet off the top of the boot (area behind your rear seat where factory rear speakers usualy go) and see if there's anything to blame there. If you can hear it, you can find it, and fix it.

Probably will be best to wait till you sound deaden to do this stuff.

I run Powerbass. Good stuff for the money. The first subs I ever bought were the ps-12's. 250 rms 500 peak. 90 bucks for the pair. I used and abused them. Since it was my first set up and I didn't know what I was doing, In competitions I would have them on 500 watts each with full gain and full bass boost. pretty efficient subs. I won a lot of spl trophy's locally with them.

A friend of mine has them now and they are still going strong.

I have the 3xl's and asa amplifiers now and have the asa's running at a half ohm they run strong and cool at half recommended ohm load. You are doing the right thing by going through a shop for your first set up.
