NEw to car audio..need some help picking decent amp for 2 10" Sonys

I have had my 2 10" Sony Xplods for about 2 years now and have been running them off a 1000 watt Koiller amp. The amp is ancient and I could never figure out what kind of amp I need.

From what I remember, my Xplods are 800 watts peak each so total 1600. I have no clue what the RMS is but I am in need of a new amp.

Both subs are in a carpeted box if that makes any difference. My budget is anywhere around $100. Thanks!

Ok thanks, how do I need to wire them too? I have no clue about the differences between 2 Channel @ 4 Ohms and 2 Channel @ 2 Ohms. Also what gauge for wiring would I need? My wires are pretty old

trash the subs and start new seriously, please help yourself. we cant even recomend a amp because we dont know the ohmage of your subs

IIRC sony Xplod subs rms is ~250. If you only want to get a $100 amp id recommend going with a used alpine 500watt amp. They have several models but they pop up in the classifieds section on here every once in a while fo 80-150 depending on condition/seller. But yea as stated above, you should get different subs in the future. Even a set of 8" Apex super jr. subs for 70 a pair in a well done box would blow away those xplods in sound quality and output. But I understand how it goes when your on a budget. But def. consider it in the future.

Buy a Kicker COMP. Its not that great, but anything is better than the xplods. It won't be expensive to afford an amp for the Kicker.

If I go that route by buying 2 subs and an amp separately, I will also have to buy a box to put them in for my trunk. This will probably add up the cost and my budget is only around $200

you can make a box for yourself. MDF is $30, all you need is some 1 5/8" coarse thread screws, titebond II, drill and a jig. a place like lowes will do the cutting for you. i highly suggest having someone like ram or buck design you a box. having a well designed box will boost your output tremendously.
