New to Car Audio. Few Questions.

Hello, this is my first post and saw there was a ton of helpful people on this forum. i am just getting started into car audio and have a few questions. I recently purchased 2 of the Cerwin Vega 12.2 subs. They are the newer silver ones. I have a sealed box that is 1.5 cu ft per chamber. Would this amp power the cerwins decently? i know it wont fully power them at all since they are 600watts rms each. The amp is 500 rms @ 2ohms. BTW i am upgraded from 2 10" sony xplods which are crap which im sure all of you know already. Will i see a difference between the 2 10" sonys and the 2 12" cerwin vmax subs? and one last question. how would i wire the 2 dvc 2 ohm subs to get a 2 ohm load from the amp? thanks.

if u have a pair of subs that needs 600 RMS, that means u need an amp that will make 1,200 RMS at the particular ohm load u will be wiring to it. seeing that u are using a 500 rms amp, (i don't know the ohm load of the subs or the load they got the 500 watts from) best case u will be giving each sub 250 RMS. with that being said. u could possably get another of the same amp and be running each sub from one amp. but remeber, this is if the ohm rating is working in your favor. i'll look for a bit and let u know.

according to Cerwin Vega's web site, those are only 300 RMS each. what ohm are those subs, D2 or 4?

ahh, my fault. i didn't look at the v-max.

with 2 D2 subs u can make your final ohm load is 2. the lowest yours is able to go is 2. so that will give u 250 each. however, u wouldn't beable to do one of those amps to one sub since they wouldn't be able to do 2 ohm to it, only 1 or 4.

your wiring option PER sub is eather 1 or 4. the amp won't do 1 ohm. and if u give it 4 ohm off one sub then your basicly getting 250w again.

yea, for the pair of subs u can do that. but remember. your taking that 500w from the amp to two subs. cutting the power to each sub in half. (250w)

yup. will i see a differnce by going from the sony xplod 10"s to the vmax 12"s? louder? better quality? the cerwins will be running off the same amp the xplods were. The specs on the cerwins are way better such as the xmax on the sonys were 6mm and the xmax on the cerwins are 17mm which i will not get cause of the amp power.

i've never heard eather of them. BUT, if u know how to properly install eather one, they will both sound good. but the explodes will get no where as loud as the CV's IMO.

get another amp that does 1200 + @2 ohm. i say + becouse A) u can allways turn the gain down. and B) u'll amost allways wanna go bigger and louder down the road.

no lie...i will probably sound like a newb...but one of my co-workers gave me ride to pizza hut last night...he had 2 xplods...thye didnt really sound great...but they got decently loud for 300 watts piece...the common person...really doesnt know what GOOD subs sound like
