New to car audio and need help builiding a system.

Hi guys,

I'm very new to car audio and just got a 2005 ford escape limited with the mach sound system. I would like to upgrade this system seeing as it doesnt have an ipod hookup and it seems dated. I have about 700 to spend maybe a bit more but i would really not like to spend much more than that. I'm looking for something loud with pretty good sound quality. I do want bass but i dont need anything thats going to blow the doors off just a nice tight bass that you can feel. A few questions i have are whether i can get good bass without a sub woofer like with just some good quality speakers? and what type of things i should get? If someone could just tell me what would be good to get that would be a huge help. Thanks guys

Nothing replicates bass like a subwoofer, this is what they are meant to do. Good quality speakers will give little to no improvement if they aren't powered correctly. Your best way to reduce cost if to try and buy some used gear check the classifieds here and ebay/craigslist.

So do you think around 700 is enough to get some decent equipment. radios, amps, subwoofer, and speakers?

Its a stretch but you can probably pull something off if you find some good deals. I hope you're going to install this yourself as well install fees will kill you. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Just buy some gear here and there $700 wont do much. Change your h/u and upgrade to comps and a 4 ch amp worry about your sub stage once you have more funds
