new subs

ive just recently gotten back into car audio and have been looking around for a new setup. i have a 2014 civic ex and am running off the stock hu and have a pioneer d9601 for power. ive been jumping around a bit with what to put in really like the idea of a couple 8s been looking at sundown x8, the american bass vfl 8s and the pioneer champion pro 12sbut am open the other ideas im thinking about 300 will be the most i want to spend on subs. previously i had to premier spl 12s ported on a jl 500/1 and i wanted something louder and that had a better low end.

ok so ive done some research and think ive narrowed it down to 2 american bass vfl 8 or a sundown x8 what are your opinions. also the pioneer amp blew sp what would be a decent amp for these setups

That amp should work. The AB VFL subs should take a little to brake in but give them a chance before running all the way. They will do well. Just make sure your alt is up for it and a back up batt is a must to me in a Honda. Also a good run of 4 ga ofc wire will all help.

Just reading again closer this time. As for amp that is a item that you will want to research. I would say a Sundown SAE-1000 would be great for 2 SE or VFL's in a good vented box. I seem to have good luck with Korean amps but most of everything is now made in China. But can be bought on the cheap and is usually just that. Just seen someone had an offer for Korea built amps for sale on Facebook. I forgot the name. I bought my Sundown from EMF car audio web site. Just do some research before just buying off anybody.

ive noticed alot of people like soundqubed but ive also read some negative things about them. i was going to go for a hds312 but the more i searched the more i read that their quality was not consistent so i backed off. ive also never had 8s and wanted to try them out, alot of people seem to be liking 8s these days

Two of those soundqubed 8's did a 142.3 in my SUV. Tline box by stang. Feeding them 600 each

Ok so I ended up buying an sa8d4 v3 from the yardsale and found a kicker zx 750.1 to replace the pioneer. So now I need a box to put them in. I looked at some boxes on amazon and all seem to be tuned too high. I've never really built anything from wood and the shops around here are telling me they want 150-200 to build one are there any cheaper options.

150-200 is actually a really GOOD deal to build a enclosure, ASSUMING that they know what they are doing. and give the subs proper airspace and tuning.

i would ask them exactly what they would be doing and how they are making the enclosure and get every detail on the box . if you dont feel 100% sure they will do it to their promise. id contact cscstang on this forumn and im sure he would build you a box that is 100% outstanding

If you have access to a drill/screw gun and a jigsaw you can get Home Depot, Lowes, or a decent lumber yard to make your cuts for a box then just glue, screw, and cut a hole for the sub(s). If you can get a belt sander and/or router it would be even better.

Cost of materials would be around 50$ plus whatever you wanted to finish it with (carpet or paint). Leaves you a few bucks to buy a couple tools at a pawn shop. You can never own enough tools.
