I got my two RSD12D subs installed in .9cuft. sealed enclosures with 450RMS each. Unfortunatly I am not impressed. I had two Boston Rally series subs in 1.5 sealed with 300 each and they hit much harder and louder. What is going on? I read so many good things about these subs. I followed the recommended specs for the sealed box (.78-1.2). Is it maybe still to small? Maybe it needs more power? Any suggestions?

The review of those subs used a much larger sealed enclosure. The .78 cu. ft. is just marketing.

I would look at 1.2-1.5 per sub.

Does the .9 include sub displacement?

From what I have seen the REAL recommended sealed size is 1.8 before displacement. Look at the forum on soundbuggy.com and you will see this repeated many times. The PG rep is one of the ones that has said this.

I think that it sucks that manufacturers will publish a recommended size but if you contact them directly you find out the optimum size is not even within the published recommended parameters.

Yeah, port them. More power.
Both.

More power is difficult with my setup. How about the porting? How would I figure out what size port?

Thats bull S*^t. They basically lie about what sounds good. That is why I bought them because of the small enclosure size. I don't have room for anything bigger and I have already spent 20+ hours doing custom enclosures for the back of my truck. And no the .9 does not include sub displacement. That was the actual size of the inside of the enclosure. I am real pissed!

Yeah that is absoulute bull sh^t. I am going to give them a call and ***** them out.

Thanks everyone for the input.

ok, a little update. I am now feeling like something else is wrong. The amp that was running the subs just blew. I hooked up another Orion XTR 900 and it's running againg but not great. It almolst seems like it's getting 100w instead of 450. I have another 900 hooked up to four components and they are majorly overpowering the subs. With the head unit at say 5 the speakers sound great but I can't even hear or feel any bass. With 450W to the subs I feel like it should be blasting, whether it sounds good or not. I have the right channel going to one sub + and - both to one input. Then from those inputs they go to the other input (VC) + to + and - to -. Exact same with the left. Thats right, right? So each channel being 225W @4ohms each sub should be seeing 450W. But it sounds real quiet. Anyone know what is going on here?

if .9 is not including sub displacement, im not sure how big those subs are but youre probably looking at like .7cuft for each sub. a bigger box is going to equal greater effiency so id look if anyway possible at a bigger box.

are you sure they arent wired out of phase with each other?
that would kill your output.

my thoughts exactly. every one makes mistake. i've wired tons of stereos, and the last one i bought, i dont know how, but i wired the subs wrong, and had no output. thought i gor ripped on my amp, but then went to unplug one sub at a time, and as soon as i unplugged 1, it got real loud. turns out i had a pos going to a neg on the sub, on a mono amp. could be your problem.

personally i make sure everything is turned off before i mess with it's wires...

yeah i normally do as well, but like i said i was real pissed , cause i thought i got ripped on the amp. i would def have stuff off if i was messing with power wires, or stuff like that, but speaker wire is not really gonna affect anything unless you connect a pos to a neg, or ground the pos on the amp. The point was that i had the same issue, as the thread starter, and that is why i had the problem.

Thanks guys for all the help. I figured it out. I checked all my wiring again and it was good. Then I started messing with the head unit and realized it had been reset. There was a crossover option enabled and it was cutting out my low frequencies. Turned that off and"BOOM"! Works great now. The subs are pounding like they should. But I still don't know how my amp got toasted.

That's exactly why they post sizes like that.

1) To get people, like you, who are worried about enclosure size to buy their product because these people blindly trust a manufacturer who has no ideas what goals you have for your system.

2) To keep returns low; by keeping enclosure volume down, they lower the chances for overexursion with rated power.
