this has baffeled my mind all night. ok so i have a alpine mrx-m240 birth sheets was 2790rms@ 2 ohms. now before today i had it running at 2 ohms on my 15 inch pa mofo in a ported box. worked great amp never got hot never cut out and sub never got hot or smelled took the power like a champ. everything is 0 guage power and ground i have the big three done new battery and alternator with no voltage issues at all. now today i got my new sub re sxxv2 15 inch runs slightly lower on the rms scale 1200 rms maximum. the mofo was 1700 so i ran this re at 4 ohms instead figuring thats perfect i can keep the amp gain lower give it exactly what it wants. now immediately with this sub which also has a 91db efficiency compared to the mofos 87db it instantly would cut sound off at louder volumes keep in mind at this point the amp is still on and ice cold. the 4 channel does not shut off nor the radio everything is still powered on and running even the sub amp there is just no movement or sound from the sub. i dont get it i checked everything but it just confuses me because running it way harder asking for almost double the wattage on a sub thats less efficient never cause any issues then i put this in at a higher ohms with a amp thats not being overloaded at all and the subs not working im baffled. the only thing i have figured out is it never comes back on once its off you have to power down radio and re power so this made me think my rtemote is bad but its fine on 4 channel and this doesnt happen when the mofo is in so im so confused and need help bad here greatly appretiated and i apologize for my grammer

Not sure if I understand this but u said the amps dont turn off? If u have to restart ur car due to the sub going out and when u start it the sub comes back on im assuming the bass amp goes into protect then. Bad woofer? Check the coils.

i was thinking the same thing it has to be something with the woofer and its coils because the amp never gave me any issues before and i was running it harder with a sub requiring more power i really dont think its my wiring not juist because ive never had any issues but also because im ocd when it comes to my wiring everything has to be clean tight and organized. im going to have to pull the sub and check the coils with a ohms meter.

according to the store i purchased it from they claim its because the re is capable of more power and needs more and causing a stronger draw. this makes no sense to me its rated at 1100 rms and the mofo at 1700rms plus the re is much more efficient which would tell me its creating less draw? correct me if thats wrong.

God I hate clueless idiots at shops that say things like that. Your current draw is going to be based off the final load applied to the amp and the level your input voltage is set at. Your speaker's RMS rating has nothing to do with it.

I'd say its either wired incorrectly (not that it isn't neat, just wrong) or has a coil issue. Because it definitely sounds like your amp is going into protect. Do you have a multimeter? Test the coils and the final impedance when you have it wired. Also, how did you set your amp?

its this sub exactly, SXX v2 15 its a dual two and i have it wired up to make a final 4 ohm impedance its wired to my Alpine MRX-M240, setting are as follows, bass boost completely off, subsonic filter off, gain around 55% and the wiring of the sub is done as manufacturer shows on their website positive to negative from one coil to another and then run a positive and negative from the other coil to the amp creating a 4 ohm load from a 2 ohm sub. this am is huge is ice cold after hours of play and has never shut off before. it baffles me how it could go into protect after changing a sub i went and double checked my voltage the lowest i could get it to drop was 13.6v and thats with running 2 amps. i am going to test the final impedance tomorrow. so lets say they screwed up and put the wrong sub in the box that means it would be running at 8 ohms would that put this amp into protect mode? and btw i appretiate all your posts this is really driving me insane because ive checked everything over and over again and im praying its not the amp because is was very expensive.

idk if this matters i can tell you this is the tightest sub ive ever seen in 15 year out of the box it literally is almost impossible to move idk if maybe thats causing it maybe once it starts to open up and break in it will move alot more freely i have to assume that has no affect on power and an sound cutting out? just throwing any idea possible out there

if the subs wired wrong (1ohm) the amp will do this, check the sub wiring and take a photo of it, or even check at your amp, remove the sub wires from the amp and use a dmm to find out what ohm your amp is seeing.

i tried moving gain around the lower i set it the less the sub shuts off. ive had a 4 ohm sub on this amp before no issues and when i had the mofo on this amp at 2 ohms it never shut off after hours of play. i keep coming back to the idea the sub must somehow be defective?
