New speakers clipping?

I just got new speakers installed. Not sure exactly what model, but they are CDT's, 6.5 and either a 61 or 62 I believe. Any ways, I'm using an old Kenwood amp, rated at 180w rms x 2 channels at 4ohms. What should my settings be at? How should I set my gain? Do I need to set it as HPF or leave that portion off? What about the frequency? 200hz? I don't know why it's clipping.... seems like it shoudn't and the volume isn't even that loud, I can probably still talk with someone while it's clipping. Any ideas? Thanks

Yea, but there was absolutely no bass and very quiet, my previous single Phoenix gold rsd was louder so I started tweaking and when the bass was on was when it started clipping.

There's roughly a $100 difference between HD-61 and HD-62, plus they have different mids and crossovers. You'll need to set them up about the same as far as the HPF and amplifier power. The power rating is for a 120 Hz HPF, and power handling decreases as you lower the HPF. It's less important to dial in XXX watts than it is to listen for the speakers when they stop sounding clear as you adjust the gain. If you aren't using a 1 kHz sine wave test tone then pick your loudest song and adjust the gain with your head unit turned up around 75% of maximum volume.

I listened to it more and it's not really clipping, it's more like a scratching sound, the music still plays it just has these random scratches.
