New Pioneer Head Units

I feel that the 780 is being slightly misrepresented here in these forums, especially by those who have the 880. To say that the 780 is all about looks over performance is inaccurate. The 780 IS a great performer. It just doesn't have as many fine-tuning options that the 880 offers. That is not to say that the 880 is a giant leap ahead, because it isn't. The 780, after all, is still a high-end Premier unit.

you wouldn't call doubling the bands of EQ, having a more selectable and customized crossover network a giant leap? personally, i've NEVER heard of a deck with 32 bands of EQ built into it.

bumpinblazer, maybe I'm just not seeing the L/R 16-band EQ the way you are. Personally, I wouldn't call that a 32-band EQ, but just a separate channel 16-band EQ. I'll give you the crossover network as a big deal, but I wouldn't call that a giant leap. The 880 is appropriately placed one level higher than the 780 on the model scale (though I would argue that being placed under the 980 isn't the most appropriate...if anything it should be laterally placed).

The intention of my post was just to show that the 780 is more than just good looks. It's not an 880, but it certainly isn't just about looks.

16 bands on the left, 16 bands on the right is what it has. that IMO is 32 bands of EQ.

Point of Clarification if i may...

Do people typically set each L+R EQ's differently?

I'm about to purchase my first aftermarket HU and am trying to decipher if i really need 32 effective bands...

I think the auto eq and time alignment make the best use of the separate L/R eqs. I would never try to adjust them independently. If you are into SQ then you should be very happy with this unit.

BTW: I will take the ipod out of the car for the lossless lossless M4A test tomorrow. Very busy today through tomorrow afternoon, but I should be able to get it done tomorrow evening.

just don't see the point in asking a redundant question. it's like asking " so does RE still do direct orders?"

Hey does anyone know if RE still does direct orders? Thanx
