Well the PS3 games support 7.1 now, not all of them, but some do.
If I have the 7.1 setup, and the movie has 5.1, can't I setup/configure the receiver to utilize the 7.1s?

Most movies don't have true 7.1 encoding, so it is matrixed from the 5.1 info.

Why don't the movie publishers have 7.1 support?, I mean the technology been out for several years now.

Specifically with blu-ray with HD sound.

because 7.1 isnt necessary if you have a respectable 5.1 setup. if you have a smaller room, you cant really run 7 channels anyways. well you can, but 5 will do the job.

In most rooms there is no discernible difference. If you have 2 less speakers to buy then you have that much more to spend on a better set of 5. More isn't always better. In fact, aesthetics are for shit when implementing a 7.1 into a room. Maybe they don't add it, because unlike consumers, these people making them are knowledgeable and aren't going to waste time making tracks that serve no purpose.
