last year or so has been. (1979 Volvo 242 GT)
A alpine Cde 143bt deck - Alpine CDE-143BT CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
A MRX F35 4 channel amp - Alpine MRX-F35 4-channel car amplifier — 55 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com
2 Arc Audio 10d4 subwoofers - Subwoofers, ARC Series, ARC 10*| Arc Audio
2 Alpine SPS 510's (Rear Speakers) - Alpine SPS-510 Type S 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
And the fronts were crappy stock speakers that only used about 15 watts each that i ended up disconnecting because they blew.
The new front are a pair of Kicker 40CS44's - Kicker 40CS44 4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
(I bought them due to shallow mounting depth). and I ended up connecting them to the old wiring that was bridged with the rear speakers on channel 1 and 2 on my amp. They worked like this although there was some distortion in the new fronts at mid-high volume. I figured it was the older wiring so I had replaced the old wiring with new but they still became distorted. But I now believe that it is a power issue with the amp because my subs were not as powerful once the new speakers were hooked up as well (There were 2 subs, and 4 bridged speakers hooked up to the amp). So I cut the wire bridging them to the amp in my drunk (leaving the rears still hooked to them amp) and re wired them to the deck in hopes of simply powering them off of the head units power. So I hooked them up correctly but 0 sound is coming from either of them (I am positive that the connections from the front speakers to the deck are good).
However, when looking at the manual for my amplifier it says channel 1 and 2 are for fronts and channel 3 and 4 are for rears or subs. But my rears have been playing off of channel 1 and 2 for a year now flawlessly and my subs have worked good on channel 3 and 4. With this being said I figured I might as well try hooking up a front speakers to the decks rear speaker wire, and I got nothing. So could the front speaker wire that was originally bridged to my amp with the rears be causing my deck to think that those disconnected wires still have speakers attached to them, because I never bothered to unbridged the old front speaker wire from the rear speaker wires.
Thanks for any advice, its kind of an odd/confusing situation. Thanks!
