New(er) amp, need opinions (no bashing necessary)

Okay, i bought a used (good price though) memphis 16-PR1KD amp. Its a monoblock amp pushing 1000w rms at 1 ohm. I bought about 3 weeks ago, some memphis audio m-class 4dvc 12's. Okay, what im wondering is does anyone have any experience with the amp or subs? they sound pretty good with my alpine amp, but i need MORE... yeah im an audiophile and too much is never enough. Anyways, ive heard of the amp going into protect mode rather easily. Is this true or just a flaw in their system? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the subs louder throughout the entire band, cuz they hit lows great, but the higher notes (like higher bass and low bass guitar that smaller speakers cant hit), they seem to lack. Is that just a characteristic of 12's? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your crossover is set too low...

No the crossover used to be set to hit from 20-200hz, and the guy at the place i got the subs said to try to turn it down some cuz its probably trying to hit the higher guitar and low voices too... and the memphis amp i bought like 30 seconds ago online... know anything about it?
