New Class D Amplifiers

It used to be that class D amps were only good for sub woofer amps, and even then not really considered good for high end systems. I see reputable car audio equipment manufacturers are now selling full range class D amps. I was wondering how the manufacturers got the distortion levels within acceptable limits, Particularly interested in the Alpine class D amps (both full range and sub amps) How do they compare with Alpines better class AB amps for sound quality?

They upped the sampling freq of the Class D circuit to well outside the audible frequency range. It lowers the efficiency of the amp a it but it works. Distortion can be made below the audible threshold. There have been full range Class D amps used in other portable electronics for quite awhile. It is onlt fairly recently that it has caught on in the car audio realm. Blade Audio made a series of Class D full range amps in the early 90s.
