Is this the current best price for a new CDA-9887? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000UVNHBI/interactiveda8747-20

I am still not 100% set on the CDA-9887 (reading up on what I lose out on when not using Imprint, and how well the KCA-620M works). But the only other option I am interested in is the Kenwood X991, hard to find this for less than $400 though and I have no experience with Kenwood.

The last Alpine I had was great, decided that while a double DIN looks nicer in my dash, its not worth the extra price over a single DIN considering I will almost never use video, and I am more interested in SQ (plan to eventually go active).

Thanks.

Pioneer DEH P-8000BT. Double Din, not terribly expensive. looks great and has great SQ. might be worth looking into.

As for the 9887, I have the 9886 and am very pleased.

I bought a Kenwood x991, for the amount of features in comparison to the 9887 is what made the decision for me.

Originally I was going to go with a x891 but unfortunately no place sells those anymore.

Looks like I will end up going with a CDA-9887, the Kenwood not being able to run active is a deal breaker for me. Hopefully I can find some good reviews on people using the KCA-620M with an external hard drive successfully.

I have been running the Alpine 9847 since 2005.It is still giving me excellent service. 3 pre-outs,mp3,which I have never used, subwoofer adjustment, bbe, sat. radio. It has amazing sound quality. One of my favorite features is that the internal amp could be shut off and you are able to run external amps.Big difference.Does the 9887 have the 4volt pre-outs?My unit runs great,I hope you get as much pleasure from the 9887 as I from the 9847....

Not able to run active, huh what?

I used to have an Alpine 7893, was a great unit. I think the 9887 does not have the 4V pre-outs, but only has 2V. No big deal for me though.

Yup, thats what I thought. But I looked on here and Google and could only find answers saying that no Kenwoods are able to run an active set up. If someone could prove me otherwise I would still be interested in the X991, but so far all I can find is that it does not provide that capability.

Weird, I could have sworn I read somewhere that it only had 2V pre outs, but then I have looked at so many head units lately and read dozens of reviews, so its easy to get confused.

4V works for me though. Looking forward to owning another Alpine.

Uhm, yeah the 9887 is actually the only model that has 4volts pre-outs.

No. 2, I have already searched and havent found anything about Kenwoods not being able to run active as well as there being no real logic behind that.

:S
